David Finch's tutorial for figure drawing on Gnomon is really good for starting. I liked it way better than Loomis. It's a good starting point. Draw all things he draws 9 times from reff and then 9 times from memory and you'll be golden.

I need some kind of anthropology (?) atlas of human morphological diversity, focused mainly on craniofacial characteristics. Something that depicts and associates facial features with places, ethnicities, cultures etc. I want to be able to draw nationalities accurately, so when I depict Zambians meeting Finns in my space opera the Finns and Zambians watching to be viscerally aware that those are their compatriots.

Hate feeling like a hack, reusing the more stereotypical types for dozens of different peoples.

I bought (and borrowed from the library) a lot of watercolor books. But the only one I ever liked and fall back on is "The Watercolor book by David Dewey' This books is also the favorite on the handprint website. Check this site out if you do not know it yet. http://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/water.html It is filled with info about watercolor, not just color-pigments but also on books.

As for gouache I have not found any book interesting. The only tutorial I ever liked was Bob Kato's painting the head lessons. Seeing this video a few years ago got me back into painting. The videos are easy to find on the web.

You also now can find lessons from the Jeffrey Watts Atelier. His Gouache painting classes are fantastic! Accept for his constant saying the same things over and over and over and over. But still seeing him building up a gouache painting is very educational. You can find these lessons on cgpeers.

It has about the same number of pages. The first two volumes covered development of designs, third volume is more of the things they designed when the anime was already in its second cour. There are some final deva designs, NB, Ragyo outfits, Ryuuko and Satsuki final transformations, OVA, background art and stuff like that. Really cool shit.
Honestly I think seeing the designs finalize in the first two volumes is more interesting than what the third has to offer, but it's still a great artbook.

Do you guys have/know of any sketchbooks/artbooks with lots of mechanical stuff like ships, robots, cars, rockets, etc. I learn a lot by studying other artists but most of the stuff I have is more character oriented. Something like a Sparth sketchbook would be real cool.

the best is probably something like this every day: 5x30 sec gestures, 5x60 sec gestures, 2x5 min drawings, end with one larger more developed drawing

hampton always emphasizes the process, building up from the gesture to the tilts and volumes and then anatomy on top
the shorter drawings will force you to focus on gesture, the longer drawings you will be warmed up with gesture and can focus more on construction

If I were you I'd just try to take high quality pictures of it. Scanning and tearing it apart would ruin the book, and having pictures is better than nothing.
