It's hard to explain but maybe the proportions or the type of inking pens made it stand out from the rest

Anyone knows their tools or methods?

The aesthetics you're describing are those of classically trained western artists.

Loomis is dope but can you prove to me that all artists refereed and used the same 3ish poster boys of /ic? every post is Loomis, brigman ... Isn't there some nich specific artist books of an era that can be thrown my way?

I read loomis and granted will spend a lot than 3 years practicing it before anything interesting comes but I cannot believe that Loomis is the singular answer to all questions about aesthetics

I think he's saying that while Loomis isn't always the source, in this case, it actually happens to be so.

Read Hogarth. He did the Tarzan comic.

start with this, but also learn loomis, many of the marvel people studied him

Study anatomy and "style" and ignore construction. That's why there was a huge quality drop in comics after the 60s.

get good draughtmanship, so the anons above are rights on what they say about Loomis and such
I think the biggest factor to this aesthetic is the inking done mixing dip pens and brushes with lots of hatching, and maybe the flat colors

copy the style and inking of the 80s artists you like or consider super 80s, my guy.

You could also investigate about popular color printing methods in the 80s maybe that will give you an idea.

Get the X-Men books drawn by Arthur Adams, Marc Silvestri and Jim Lee first. Then go down the dark rabbit hole that is Rob Liefeld. Hard mode: Todd McFarlane

>>3212173 's got it right, though that's more John Buscema than what you're looking for. Go down to your local comic book shop and raid the dollar bins for 80's and 90's reference material.

You're going to find a shitload of Image comics in there, but there are a few Marvel X-Men comics worth digging out of that bin. Check out VZA on Youtube, Jim Lee has several video uploads there, along with some old faves like Geroge Perez and Marc Silvestri.

Hope this helps, my dood. Good luck.

And for god's sake, study Liefeld but don't take his technique for drawing and adopt it as your own.

The horror...the horror....

McFarlane's alright, but he's no marvel. Get it, because he used to work for Marvel but he...eh, you get eet.
