I have classes and have a part time job now so I'm really busy and exhausted all the time.
Making thread has been time consuming for me because I need to check the thread, pick the submission and do some graphic design work. I wouldnt enjoy just slapping a white text on a random pieces and call it a day just to be quick.

I gotta say, this has been surprisingly... easy? Not easy to make the art, but easy to keep doing it every day. I've tried to do this for a long time on my own but I've never been able to stay consistent until now, it's just suddenly clicked.

I felt like this and went for 200 days, dropped out after not feeling it one random day, thinking it was no big deal, I'd just continue the next day on my own.

Had this at the start of the year.
Decided to just draw every day at the turn of the year as a new years resolution, though I've been always a bit skeptical about new year resolutions.

It worked surprisingly well, I had to drag myself
through the first few days but suddenly I gained some momentum and now I can't even force myself to skip a day.
I joined las somewhere in april and have been uploading my stuff daily and it just feels good that despite being so unskilled, I still work at it every single day, those feelings motivate me to keep going even if I draw utter garbage.

Im trying to find new ways to study stuff. Lately Ive been doing reference studies, right after which I try to draw the same thing from imagination to see what stuck. Though i've been finding that nothing really sticks that much. What do you do when youre studying?

I forget who was talking about it, but some pro guy was saying he would study film screencaps and make them true to the shot as possible, and then redraw from memory and imagination. Pretty intimidated by this current assignment I have, where the end product is a 20 x 30 in (50.8 x 76.2 cm) print. It's hard as fuck trying to paint loosely when it's the resolution is 6k by 9k pixels and being able to zoom in makes you want to paint tightly. Plus I can't gauge how the actual product will look IRL printed.

Try flipping it around a bit:
Look at a reference, study it with your eyes. Maybe try to determine where the horizon line is, where some vanishing points are, some proportions and so on.
Then hide it and try to draw it from memory.
Then reveal the reference and correct everything in your drawing.
I think this is a way to get around the mindless copying because you're only copying for the specific purpose of fixing the problems in your drawing.
Once you fix everything, maybe you can try drawing it again from memory/imagination.

I do reference studies with the intent to figure out how/why something is as it is, trying to break down the forms of something in a way that allows me to grasp it, find little truths like maybe this always lines up with that or this is higher than that. Well, if we're trying to assess this accurately and appropriately for the comfort of the dog girl and to avoid drawing ire from society, that would mean that we're going to have to define a few facts here.

The US standard for sexual maturity is 18.
A female dog reaches sexual maturity between 8 and 18 months of age, so let's say 2 years to be absolutely safe.

Now, we need to assess in what proportion she is human girl to dog. Let's say the percentage of human is H, and the percentage of dog is D.

Simply multiply H with 18, and D with 2, and you will find the sexual maturity of any anime dog-eared girl, anthropomorphic german shepherd or real woman on the planet.

We can assess the legitimacy of this formula by plugging in numbers. A half dog, half girl would be 0.5 H, 0.5 D, which evaluates to 0.5*18 + 0.5*2 = 9 + 1 = 10, which is perfectly halfway between the two sexual maturity ages. Clearly, if H was 1 and D was 0, or vice versa, we get the real life definitions of sexual maturity.

Got much detail work done on the pier, the woman, the buildings.

worked on one of the focal points in the painting. The girl on the pier holding the lamp. Trying to paint dark for the under painting of the skirt so it appears to be folds when viewed. That should give it depth. Then the reflection in the water. This part was sure the exercise since I tried to get the paint to do one thing, and it (spontaneously) did another. People generally like talking about themselves if they're given the opportunity, especially when they feel like the person they're talking to is genuinely interested. So sometimes it's about trying to frame a topic of discussion through *their* eyes, you know what I mean? To find out their specific feelings/experiences with what you're talking about. Do you think that makes sense?
You also may be downplaying what's going on in your life, and you may be suppressing your curiosity about others' lives to an unreasonable degree, because you're polite or humble, or reserved yourself. I don't know you at all, this is just a possibility. Why is it that you don't want to meddle with others' lives?

Well I'm a beginner and most of my work has been in just copying exercises from books for the sake of just getting better, Instead I just found a picture I liked on /a/ and tried to take the pose and design draw it as accurately as I could and place it on a new character, I found that my designed head was a little bit too small for the body, and my hands were all sorts of fucked. It was a great learning experience.

Constantly making errors with typos and debugging it sounds kinda overwhelming.

Anyone know any good tutorials/tips for drawing torsos and arms from imagination, I keep getting stuck, I just can't wrap my head around how they work in 3d space

I struggled a lot with that, things that helped me are memorising the proportions well, having an app where I can rotate around a 3d torso (the one I'm using is called l'ecorche) for a quick ref, locating and drawing in the landmarks (point where clavicles meet, end of sternum, elbow, wrist, etc.

The only challenging part is getting sick, unforeseen internet problems or having a schedule that aligns with the deadline in a bad way.

I do them in one stroke then maybe touch them up slightly if they're too offensively lopsided. Feel like it defeats the purpose of the exercise if you spend too much time correcting so I try not to.

You should watch the thread for trends, get to know everyone who posts (las thread is impossible because noone posts work). The work you select reflects the layout choice. Picking a good font comes from feeling of the picture...not just randomly going to a font website and downloading whatever font. Shriney used to do collages and those take even more time.
