The writing is awful, but the artwork is what kills me. If it looked good, I might feel less discouraged by its success. Guess all ya gotta do is toss in a couple lesbians and an obnoxious child and you're good.

Even at just $1 per member he's bringing in a cool $66,792 dollars a year. Some are donating more.

but hey, keep grinding out your fundies and photorealistic "art" /ic/ so you can work 100 hours a week for $40k as a concept artist in a cutthroat industry, you fucking idiots.

LGBT community is quick to support artisr and writers that put them in the spotlight. I've only seen a few related projects being launched on Kickstarter and Patreon and all of them had below average artstyle. I'm sure there are a bunch of good projects too but as of now I think you might be right with your statement.

Indeed, instead of Loomis and skill, all you need is a time machine so you can go back to the early 00s, start a shitty, yet somewhat addictive slice of life webcomic and spend the next decade+ slowly building up a fanbase that you eventually will be able to monetize once Patreon becomes a thing.

Also video game development actually has expenses. Even if it's cheap indie shit. Especially if you gotta hire artists and don't do everything by yourself.

this, a video game is usually split between at least an artist and programmer. unless you're yanderedev then you just steal art and use premade assets.

Keep in mind though he's been making this comic since over a decade ago at this point. He was one of the few who managed to corner in on the "webcomics are still cool" trends, but when he realized he'd never beat Penny Arcade in the nerd market he did the smart thing and jumped on the SJW drama wagon.
He was never actually an artist or even a cartoonist. He was basically just some guy making content for fun who managed to get in at the right place and right time.

if you can just "draw" some low tier shit and make 66k a year then everyone would be doing it, it's full of crappy comics and crappy artists. That faggots just got lucky. Meanwhile if you are really really good at what you do you can actually get a job instead of hoping that some day you just become popular.

Read it thrice. Doesn’t mean the art isn’t ugly and the writing isn’t boring as shit. Just because shit is popular, it doesn’t suddenly make it good even if the audience enjoys it and is catered to. Think of overly simplified minions, my friend. Think of Twilight. Accessibility does not excuse bad work.

>meanwhile Devil's Candy can't even break 1k
The state of indie comics and webcomics right now is pretty much that you have to make it as 'queer' and 'diverse' as possible, and specify every character's snowflake gender / sexual orientation (which is never, ever straight). Actual comics make pennies. What a shit career.

>> No.3177327

>>3177310
eh, market's a lot more saturated now than it was. QC probably wouldn't get a look in if it was created today, i bet your devil candy thing is only a few years old.

>> No.3177362

>>3177327
But then if the main requirement for success in webcomics is getting in early, the whole system's hopeless. There are creators that put actual passion and insane work ethic in their projects and they barely get any money. This isn't just them making less money than porn or the garbage in the OP. It's the difference between less than minimum wage and six figures.
