No need to put it off desu

1hour a day is all you need to spend on a single still-life painting

First if all, no. You should take as long as you can especially with value studies. You should be spending hours on it not speed painting. Also when i do the value study I try to apply something to it that's imagination so that takes additional time.

bruv the most youre going to get out of studying a day is in a 5 hour period. After that you are going to have diminishing returns. If youre going to be working for hours on end like that at least plan in a nap or two. I know its a meme to study for hours on end and torture yourself until youre an amazing painter but that's how you end up burning out.

First of all, different people have different staminas, saying everyone will hit diminishing returns at 5 hours is retarded, second I obviously do plan on taking breaks, I take a 10-15 min break every 2 hours, and third it isn't fucking torture. What's this stupid ass meme of pain no gain on ic. I do this as a hobby and I could go 12 hours without burning out

>> No.3169636

>>3169509
Different people do have different staminas for sure but not (as much) when it come to studying. When a person is learning, the brain kinda just taps out after a few hours at a constant after a night of good rest. That can vary as well but lets fucking face it, we arent dealing with the cream of the fucking crop here on ic are we?

You can totally rock out with your cock out drawing all the weeb shit you already learned and nailed down for 20 hours straight and be consistent, sure. But if you try to study for hours on end, you are eventually going to start phoning shit in whether you like it or not. A good learning period ranges from 5-7 hours. Mind you, I dont entirely feed into this shit myself. But since ive been more routine with when and how long I study, things move forward a lot faster. Will I spend 16 hours doing study work alk fucked up on coffee and coke? Yeah I do because rent. BUT the fucking science people said not to.

>I do this as a hobby

You aren’t doing this at all. You’re doing some perspective thing instead, which is great, but it’s not painting.

>> No.3169792

Erik Olson's videos are shit and he doesn't even teach three point perspective. Gary Meyer's videos are better.

>> No.3169906

>>3169792
Oh but he does :^)

I haven't seen Gary Meyer's vids, but doesn't he start by drawing a scene in one point perspective?
If he's not a meme instructor he should know 1pp isn't even a real thing, let alone a fundamental thing.
Seriously, what's wrong with Norling, Vandruff or Scott Robertson? If you go through these and still have time on your hands, spend it learning how to render, or pick a project and design something.

Yeah but it's not like I'm doing nothing. I'm using that time to improve my perspective skills.
