IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Here is another drawing I made, this time for my little brother. It's the 4th drawing I made, after really attempting drawing.

I traced, because placing lines is fucking frustrating and I wanted to finish it in a reasonable time and not try it more than 1 time.

I however learned something interesting:

I really don't need to "finish" drawings, for maximum learning effect; what is most important for me now, is probably to capture the general gesture and proportion by observation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this may be a good place to start, right?

I got myself "The Natural Way To Draw" by Kimon Nicolaides, do you recommend it?

(I traced as to not totally fuck up proportions, I think I'll try some outline drawings, or just follow a book, if you recommend one?)
Pic related with drawn only with a reference without tracing.

Man I appreciate fun with a pencil a lot but I wish those first few pages weren't the way they are. That first experience of being given a "draw a face on a sphere" exercise and sitting there like "yeah I literally can't do that andy if I could I wouldn't be reading your book" was so disheartening, then all of a sudden it's like okay baby-mode over now lets construct human heads and combine shapes and the amount of information there is absolutely wonderful.

I guess it's meant to ease you in like teaching a child "see? drawing is FUN!!!" but I found myself thinking oh god I can't even do the basic shit what the fuck.

R-resources?

...

Uh.

1. Look at animal reference picture. Break animal into simpler shapes, paying close attention to large areas of muscle like shoulder or hind quarter and general shape of flank. Mark joint locations with little circles. Connect with straight lines to find correct leg/muscle/foot location.

2. Draw from enough references that you can break animal down into simplified shapes from any angle in any position, within reason.

3. Fun exercise that definitely helps to master an animal is to pull up an image of an animal on Google Images, study it for 1 minute, memorise it as best you can, close image, draw animal from memory. You do it by memorising the shapes in that particular composition and then filling in the easy to remember details like where there is more fur and where there is less.

4. Draw animal without references.

5. All animals are different, but there are similarities that you can rely on like rough leg conformation. Practice different paws and hooves and heads and animals, but probably start with one difficult animal like a deer or a horse or a lion to learn with first.

In other words, no resources. I, ah, may have never even followed any of the links that are posted in the sticky.

Just. Look at an animal. Break down the shapes. Sketch the shapes. Build detail onto the shapes.

My tip is to take care to measure angles and distance.

If you've been sitting for hours you've probably stared yourself blind and become super fussy over it. I would personally just scrap the drawing and do it again while measuring more carefully.

If you didn't understand a little of the painting is because my lack of skill but at least I got the theory.

A painting should be readable using 3 or 4 values. I just need to practice more.by the way the ref is a master painting of Jean Leon Gerome.

I didn't care about the measurements, just the values. Next goal is take both, 4 values system and measurements . If you know more about this please share knowledge dear anon. I will be glad.

Disregard my previous question as I'll give it a try anyway, as I've always wanted to learn and I think it's beautiful.

My real question is how long should I be spending with beginner books? I have a tendency to rush lessons when I think I'm ready to move on, when I'm overestimating my abilities.

Almost every musculoskeletal condition is treated with:
Rest Ice (uptodate doesn't think that ice is important) Compression Elevation and surgery if it doesn't get fixed.

Uptodate says use more ergonomic shit, avoid heavy loads, stretching following activity, do stretches frequently and for at least 15-30 seconds each time.

If quite painful: NSAIDs are given (the term NSAIDS does not actually include paracetamol/acetaminophen but something like aspirin that can cause side effects like gastro effects).

Carpal tunnel and tendinitis is two different syndromes.

Carpal tunnel refers to the nerve irritation (due to compression of the nerve at the carpal tunnel).
Tendinitis refers to the inflammation of the tendons (where they insert in the bone).

>>/ic/thread/S3139440#p3139642
>>/ic/thread/S3076031#p3077008

You should be able to tell the difference between the two based on the location of where it hurts and how it hurts.

Carpal tunnel is thumb, second finger, third finger and half the fourth finger on the radial side but not on the palm or on the back of the hand (Classic Carpal Tunnel). If the palms are involved, it's Probable Carpal Tunnel. Patients complain of numbness, tingling and pain in that location and it can go up the arm and wake people up at night.

Guyon's canal is half the fourth finger on the ulnar side and the fifth finger.

Tendinitis is not going to have numbness/tingling.

Ah I like that man! Thanks, I'll try out the style and post it here in an hour or so. If it helps you to understand, I don't want to go anime tier cleanness, I like the messiness of the inked line of say, Aubrey Beardsley, who rarely even used shading, but it's clean and clear and very emotive, which mine isn't right now.

Also, yeah, Hitler wasn't great politically, even after you find out admoshing things like the 160,000 Jews in the wehrmacht and ss, but he was up against some foul people - the Soviets, the Bolsheviks, Winston Churchill (who said he would sacrifice every last Anglo Saxon, woman and child, before he surrendered or brokered peace with the Germans, what a cunt). Clearly, if it was a fight between honourable parties, WW2 wouldn't have even happened - General Oswald regretted it, famously saying "we fought the wrong enemy", as has been expressed by many clear and rational war generals. But the Reichsmark couldn't be independent from international finance, goy, just like Gadaffi or Sadam or Assad, so we'll pin the crimes of the NKVD and Red Army on the honour-and-virtue-obsessed volunteer Germans and outlaw any research into the validity of the accused crimes. You can control the distortion. if you are using one point perspective and you go out of the cone vision you get distortion but you can avoid the distortion moving the horizontals lines a little (forshortening) like two point perspective. and also when you use two point perspective if you go out of the cone vision you will need to foreshortening the verticals using 3 point perspective

You are definitely making some big strides forward, but one thing that I noticed is that texture and detail is drawing your attention away from where it needs to be. You're caught up in getting those details right, and as a result focus less on the underlying construction of the object. This is entirely understandable, because animals tend to have a lot of complex detail to them, but it's very important that you look beyond that and focus on the structure.
On a related note, I also noticed that your underlying construction was drawn with a noticeably fainter line - a sign that you were attempting to keep the construction lines hidden. When we actively go to such lengths to hide linework, it makes it difficult at best of times to also draw those marks with the kind of confidence we need right now to keep the lines smooth and the ellipses evenly shaped. Without that, our forms end up less solid and fail to maintain the illusion of being three dimensional. From there, the construction falls apart, and the details placed on top end up being, to exaggerate, something like makeup on a pig.
Construction is everything. Don't let yourself forget that.

>> No.3170353

>>3168633
You're making decent progress. As far as construction goes, you're demonstrating a solid use of forms, and a good grasp of how they interact with one another when coming together to build up to these various animals. One thing I did notice though was that you definitely are a bit heavy with the contour lines - it's important to consider before drawing a mark, whether or not that line is going to contribute something meaningful to the drawing. When it comes to contour lines, consider whether or not those already present are already doing the job you expect of the one you're thinking of adding. Usually a couple contour lines across the length of a form is enough. Overdoing it has its downsides, in that it'll make your forms appear more stiff.

The biggest area where you can improve is with your observation skills. There are many examples where things have gone great, but there are others where what you've drawn is not quite the result of what you see, but rather what you remember seeing. Looking back at your reference frequently is imperative in order to avoid the pitfalls of our own faulty memory. It's generally a good idea to keep looking at your reference as a default, looking back to your drawing only long enough to put down a mark or two before turning back to the reference.
