I fucking suck at shading and line variation to the points it's actualy frustrating. I just can't seem to get it right and I've tried a few methods already but all my shit just comes out flat.

Pic related is a lineart I drew of a portion of Samus. I thought she would be good practice because of all the raised and lowered groves in her suit along with the spherical body she has. I made a sample of how I would do my shading of a lowered grove and it came out this fucking shit. I just can't do it man.

you've literally not even started and you're giving up? at least finish the damn picture before you come posting here anon.

finish the fucking piece. Sure, it might look like shit, but at least you would actually learn something from doing it instead of nothing.

This is not my first attempt at drawing and it would be time wasted to finish something that I know won't turn out well. this was my most recent finished practice on line variation.

if you don't finish pieces, you don't learn. If you don't learn, you don't improve. it's as simple as that.
look at tutorials, read up on what to do, look at examples, and do it. do it as many times as needed until you get a result that is pleasing to you. that's how you improve at art.
the first time you draw something is always going to look bad. let it be bad, because the more of them you do, the more you learn from your mistakes and the better you get. persevere.

that's just my two cents
