I wondered this too when I first looked at the submissions. The answer is that he submits that comic to every single fucking contest and "Team PIZA" has alot of fans from non medibang sites afaik.

>> No.3152876

I see a lot of anons shit talking the art of the submissions so far. And I do think it's bad too, but have you guys seem Attack On Titan manga art? Or one punch man art before it was popular? Art isn't that important in comics/mangas.

And even saying this, I have my own standards because I want to make vagabond-level manga so maybe I'll join next time.

>> No.3152879

>>3152535
>>life and death

That shit was so bad lol. This is why we should judge art separately from comics, (see Shingekishit and OPM shit for future reference). Sad that people mostly judge mangoes on art quality and not on pacing, panelling, and storytelling. Replace all the well drawn ikemen and you'll get a polished turd for a scenario.

The humour sense is just a bad attempt at slapstick using shock values. There is barely any coherence between transitions. The characters are shallow, undeveloped piece of shits. I want my fucking braincells back.

>> No.3152880

>>3152876
for one attack on titan is 10x better than most of the submissions and about opm well thats exactly it isnt it? it became so popular after it got the good art

I don't know about this nat boi. I feel enraged by my loss of braincells earlier. I fear that my critique rampages will not be toned down.

The good:
Very good and dynamic action scenes, some of the pages flow especially well. Could use a bit more pages for a more tense action sequence, varying different camera angles... but for an amateur submission I'll be more lax:4/5
Anatomy: very good, he's doing his foundies well and the inking is very pretty:5/5.
More relatable characters than life and death, they give off an interesting vibe but the story lacks direction.

The bad:
The pacing of delivery of the jokes felt way too fast. It's like he's trying to cram more than what he could. Because of that, the mood transition between serious and comedy felt awkward at times. He's probably going for the deadpan/slapstick route but it doesn't come off naturally.

I never once thought that the protag became a girl, don't make the setting too ambiguous as it'll leave your readers with a sense of confusion.

Conclusion: Better than that life and death. But again that isn't saying much. Get better at storytelling, you're very very good at drawing already, but for stories think of HOOKING YOUR READERS IN. For that I would suggest either study from already existing writing prompts at reddit, they got some good shit there. Doesn't mean that you're going for comedy that there'd be no need to study.

If that isn't doable find a writer with whom you can team up with, there's loads of great ideas I've read but no one to illustrate them. Comic is a communicating medium, just as writing is. Storytelling is the core, and not the art! Don't let the art do all the carrying!

Sorry for the unsolicited advice, just wanted to rant a bit. Ah I feel better.

It's more of a proportion issue when looking up than anything else, so look into stuff like this.

>> No.3153320

Hello, my third critique in this thread if you wouldn't mind. Mrawwwwrr, kinda sleepy so I'm probably going to be less brash.

Generally, a curvilinear perspective would be nice for a spread page; it will help demonstrate the "grandeur" of the arena while fitting the audience and the MC in the same panel instead of making them disparaging.
The far right girls and middle left girl looked like they got copypasted there and not part of the show. Also some extreme views from the top will be nice, go for some 3 point perspective for the girls.

You should also play more with values, such as highlighting the MC and make everything else darker/fade.

Main point: your page lacks an overall focus. Art wise you are not as willing in experimenting crazy angles. Study and research from mangoes with "tournament arcs" with clear view of the coliseum. Ones that I have in my head right now that were quite memorable are Kengan Asura, HxH... There's also this thing called Battlesexer (no it's not porn); it's one fucking weird shit but the coliseum and the crowd cheering left a mark in my head.

How to detect when something is good: when it's long lasting, giving a deep impression, yadayada. Keep the work in mind so you can use it as future research.

The best panel is the DJ/radio broadcaster. How his hands go out of the panel makes it real dynamic. Although in doing that you're putting less emphasis on the MC. You always want more focus from your reader. Having two focal points might distract them. One single focal point gives more of an "epicness" impression. For one page (even spread double pages), limit the focus to one thing. Either the MC takes the spotlight or the DJ, not both. Your pick.
