IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

You first need to get instructional material, to learn how to draw what you are drawing. Then. you practice in order to refine that knowledge, which becomes skill. So I'm having a problem with contrasts. Basically the main criticism I get is that my drawings are too light and I'm not using the full range from white to black. Even if I spent additional hours trying to darken a drawing I still get told that it's too light. I especially have this problem when I'm drawing someone in daylight. To me the shadows on someone's body usually just come off as really subtle, so I draw them that way.

Anyone got some tips for this? Maybe some book? I did go through all the beginner's books like drawing on the right side of the brain, fun with a pencil etc. I don't really have a problem with construction or proportions. Just shading.

My first value study. Any notes?

>>3149734
The primary lesson in Keys to Drawing is to learn how to draw 'what you see' without letting your brains get in your way. I think the book's most helpful for drawing portraits and to extent, figures, with proper measuring.

Treat the exercises as brain exercises. Go through them once, reflect what you learned and move on. Spend some more time line drawing portraits and figures (line-of-action.com is good for that) until the faces and bodies start to look accurate.

When drawing mechanical things like typewriters, especially in perspective, it's more beneficial to use construction techniques which you should learn after Keys to Drawing.

So is rendering just more about practice and sleight of hand than theory? Theory seems quite simple, highlight, halftone, core shadow and reflected light, but making it look right and look good is a different story.

Top is most recent? It's actually a shame I can barely tell.

It's just so much symbol drawing with no construction. If you wireframed everything it'd be better. So many parts of your drawings are completely flat, especially limbs, hair, and tail.
You're just drawing what you remember they look like instead of creating 3-D construction.

I'm sure you already know this if you've been drawing for 6 years though. But I swear you can get better.

Only been drawing on and off for like a year and a half and so I'm still shit as well. but this is what I meant by wire-framing and 3D construction.

Every part of the body is a variation of a shape, cube/sphere/cylinder/cone.
Make all your drawings of zebras if you need to, you just need to think harder about the underlying form instead of just outlines/symbols.

You can make passable horses sometimes with symbol drawing but you fell flat a lot of the time.

>> No.3151938

>>3151921
You're on the right track, you just gotta think more about why stuff looks the way it does. From a 2 dimensional view a lot of colors are in the general area where they should be, but they don't represent anything. As a result you have a lot of edges that don't have any meaning.
Look at the soft round forms of the snow on the left side of the foreground. You can clearly understand what you're looking at in the reference. On your side it's a crisscross of lines, on the other you can see a soft gradation over the roundness of the snow mounds with hard edges where the light side of a mound in front overlaps with the shadow side behind it.

This is the most dunning krueger post I've see today. Do you even draw? No one spends 5 minutes on a drawing unless it's a small scribble. It's atypical to put in 30+. 800 drawings in a week? No one ever does that unless they just want to waste paper or are doing studies of something. Either way, it's clear that the anon with his album spend more than 5 minutes on drawing a pony, you don't see the mistakes erased which is what most people who don't draw don't understand.

How good you get is directly proportional to the amount of art and the quality of practice. Pic related are photos from two old sketchbooks of mine (from about 6 years old to 14 years old). I've been drawing for about 23 years (not a fast improver), discovered /beg/ three years ago (back when artists like Firez were on /beg/), made most of my improvement in the past 5 months ago.
