IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Im learning to draw perspective grids.
Can someone please explain to me or give me some pointers about how to transfer lenght and mesurements from the horizontal plane to the vertical plane in 2 point perspective?
If I understand correctly, using the diagonal vanishing points you can make a rectangle with all equal sides ( aka a fucking square), then from there you can use dividing and multiplying to make the grid.
But How do I draw a cube with all equal sides?
How do I transfer length from horizontal lines to vertical lines?
Only way I though of was using the horizontal vanishing points.
also tell me everything wrong about my pic

I like listening to music a lot and something that I would really love to do is to be able to draw images from imagination based off of the lyrics and the music. A couple artists that inspire me to draw are Hirohiko Araki and Roger Dean because I love the look of their work. I want to work become just as good, if not better than them. That's why Loomis tells you to do it, so you can start working it and practicing to get it better. You think people just start at 100 visualization capability? That's not how it works.

>can draw the circle for the cheek but zero fucking clue where to draw in the lines at any perspective
Obviously, you haven't drawn enough to internalize perspective. Loomis already tells you about the sphere and how to go about it, so keep practicing.

>my circles are barely even circular
Keep working at it. If you stop, they'll forever not be circular.

People are one of the most complex things to draw, sure you can keep doing what you're doing, but you can't neglect the fundamentals. Draw-a-box teaches you about form and form is what makes up people, if you avoid it, you're not properly seeing and likely won't be able to draw as well. Observational drawing is okay though, so keep drawing people if you want, it just may not be very easy to do so from imagination since you lack the understanding of form and perspective. How to draw videos are very hand-holdy and you can't always rely on them, so be sure to draw on your own time too. They do give you knowledge about things you didn't know about before and that's good.

Yeah it's nothing that won't give eventually with enough practice, but I didn't expect it to be quite this hard (it's a literal mind block, shit goes blank). I'll keep drawing fat balding old men as per Loomis' instructions until I got it down, plus if I ever decide to get into drawing rape hentai I'll be ready. I imagine it will start getting better after ~50-100 hours of trying, possibly more.

The sticky's whole purpose was so people don't waste their time writing posts about the same thing over and over, it's not such a stretch to include some hand-holding in there. It only tells you which books to read, but not why or even how to apply them most of the time. It's like it was written by beginners instead of adept artists. It's vagueness implies that. Luckily, it's full of resources so it outweighs the writing. The sticky also needs to include more examples that can be related to people who would come to /ic/, mainly /a/ type of people because for some reason, whoever made the sticky really thinks people who draw anime want to draw fat balding old men as a way to get started. Horrible and needs to explain why because beginners can't into understanding the greatness of Loomis right off the bat, they lack the experience.

The sticky is not meant to be a self-contained guide on drawing. That would be pointless because there are already many resources out there that are well written and very helpful.

Both posts are my drawn shid but yeah what I'm trying to do at the moment is to put some gesture/energy into my poses. Perspective is pretty tough and anything I grid looks stiff and it's hard to push poses into it without using, say, design doll or referencing off sketchfab models. Maybe that's why there's so much of a push on zbrush in those fzd design notes. I guess there's also those krenz lectures I haven't watched yet for using a rubics cube for things like people's heads.

you pic an aspect of the fundamentals youre specifically trying to improve and focus on this while making a copy of something you see from a ref pic/real life

if you're drawing a portrait you could be 'studying' anything from basic proportions, construction, finer details like capturing a likeness, values, colors, etc

'studying' is basically "what am i trying to learn from this piece?"

read the sticky, youll need to get good at drawing first and you'll want to start with paper and pencil then move to digital later so you dont have to deal with learning a program at the same time

I drew up an art challenge and have no idea if it'll even remotely work for me. My current skill is bad, and I can't properly visualize in 3d or see in form, and I'm hoping along the way through drawing off reference of models that I'm going to break on through to the 3d side through sheer bruteforce alone.

the eyes need some smoothing, look at how the eyelids and the fat above the eyelid smooths anfd curves around the eyeball, you have sharpish lines, smoothing will make it more feminine i guess

i feel like you dont understand the shape of her nose fully, maybe look a nose anaotmy and construct it better to shade it better

the left side of her lip also sags too much giving the impression of a half pout, if you look at the reference there is less indication of pouting

if you want to get a feel of the forms just redline the reference image showing all the 3d shapes of her neck, shoulder and collarbone

First off I would recommend you scale up your sketch to a high resolution and find a pen
with pressure settings you really like if you want to make a linework.
What you have now is fine for digital painting but not other styles that focus on outlines.

I've found the best way to improve linework is to find an illustration you like and get really close and study the lines/draw them yourself. Good linework is all about a line that shows gesture, form and shading through the lines direction and thickness just always think about how your line will describe those every time you make a new line. All you can read from the linework in your sketches is the form and shapes, which is normal for a sketch/construction.

You need to relearn anatomy (especially the hands and the relationship of the arm to the body). Are you drawing the body first or the clothing?

Grind out nude poses from quickposes.com until you are comfortable drawing bodies and then draw a shitton of hands once you are comfortable with that and then work on getting more movement into your drawings and then work on perspective like all the best pokemon artists.

Guzma has a 3D model ripped from Sun and Moon which means you should acquire a copy of his model, import it into something like Blender and tilt his head and body around as a reference when you are doing hard poses. Never draw without a pose reference (nude photograph preferred) as it will lead to a boring standing pose.

It would help us more to give critic if you posted a few more studies at the same time so we could give proper critic on recurring issues. The eyes are too big, the ear is gigantic, the lip is asymmetric and overall you could be more precise with your perspective and ellipses.

>>3148272

Aside from the form issues, it looks too angular to be appealing to me. Looks like paper cut outs

So Im fumbling my way through pretty much my first drawing and I'm a bit stuck. Im drawing Tougou Mimori, a girl with long black hair throwing a ball and I'm having a hard time understanding where the hair would flow. Maybe because my proportions and angles are off.

It's often better if you hint at a neck instead of a floating head. don't shy away from hands and faces when doing the full figure because they are the most expressive and interesting parts. Be careful with using those as reference. The fov is too narrow and distorts things.
Those are also sculptures and not real people.

You keep adding all these details, but you struggle with just getting the basic forms down.

draw these:
http://orig09.deviantart.net/13bb/f/2012/096/6/6/head_references_by_snuvi-d4v6vc0.jpg

For proportions:
The eyes are way too small. There should be about an eye's width between each eye.

You are using a sphere to construct the head, but you make it way too big to be useful in construction. The sphere is only for the top of the head to the bottom of the nose. the jaw should not be significantly smaller than the sphere.

I will show you how to properly draw from reference as well in a sec.

Well of course you need opportunities to work on a big canvas and it's neither easy nor very practical. But a teacher of mine once told me that bigger drawings will make your smaller drawings richer and I found that to be very true. There's also a right scale for everything. heres a little life hack, instead of seeking highs, seek lows. smoking weed everyday will make you life when you arent high seem shitty by comparison, instead do the opposite and seek voluntary discomfort. a 30 minute bus ride to work doesn't seem so bad after an ice cold shower at 6 in the morning.

also don't do things that make you feel good, do things that make you productive. people confuse happiness with short lived ecstasy. happiness is actually derived from your satisfaction in your life, ie. how much work you have done. i've never regretted working hard for something, even if that hard work amounted to nothing, have you?
