Could the issue be that you are copying parts of those ref pictures as is? Instead of basing your work on it and not copying parts one-for-one?

I recommend looking into stuff like edge control (can't recommend a specific tutorial, you'll find plenty) and practice using a clear focal point and fade-out of rendering. That should help get rid of the copied look, but it could take a few weeks/months of practicing.

Pic not related. Also, I lost $200 trading crude oil today. But doubled down on new short positions.

i know photo reference seems like a perfectly fair way to get poses correct, but anon! If you have friends who are willing to do all these poses for you GET THEM TO DO THE POSES FOR YOU! i WISH i had people that would stand around for paintings. Even if it comes out crap as a result you will learn so much more about working with models, painting efficiently and quickly, and rolling with punches if you actually get the models to pose for you over multiple sessions.

best way to get good at painting is getting good at drawing. 1/3rd of your work should be painting, 2/3rds drawing. I'm pulling that figure out of my ass, but whenever I see tallies of great artist's work that's usually the ratio.

Don't use little scribbly brushes to shade it when you're blocking in - if you lay down just the big masses of light and shadow you can use the values as part of the comp more than your lines do. Squint or zoom way out to check if you still have big, readable value groups.

Move your "camera" a bit, and layer the distance more. There needs to be a stronger spatial relationship between your figures.

Design the environment at the same time you do the figures. Just use rough gestures for them, and block in the environ more in terms of big shapes, strong lines. Design your detailed figures and perspective grid and architecture to suit the basic flow of your thumbnail, not the other way around. You're not gonna add a line or two to something in this stage and fix it, so you have to plan from large to small in your shapes.

Thanks anon. I'm afraid it is not done yet but maybe I will finish it by the end of next week. As for influences I honestly can't think of a strong one maybe Shin Ichi Sakamoto the guy who draws koukou no Hito but particularly Innocent this later one is just freaking gorgeous. I also love almost anything with fall off shadows and chiaroscuro.

You can check some of my finished stuff on my deviantart and tumblr

yes it's on clip studio, but it's not the chalk tool, it's the or one of the basic pencil tools I think, called "rough pencil". I've never touched the settings because it's the best basic tools I've come across yet. alhought one thing you might want to do is disable the stabilizer, it drains a lot, and removes some sharp edges that actually look better with this tool.

Not him but basically you are drawing the symbol of an eye. You have to turn around the socket of the eye and the eye lids, you also have to keep in mind the proportions and how each feature relates to the other ones, I hope this helps.

Not the same dude, but a neat tip about the eye is that the lateral side goes far back into the face, while the front side is almost flat with a small bulge.

So if you start turning the face, the lateral side of the furthest eye disappears very quickly behind the face.

If I squint it still makes sense, so you should be fine just painting over the linework and keeping the figures in the background as areas of rest, with many lost edges.

>>3130776
That's very kind of you anon, It also makes me a bit worried for you because as you can see I still make a lot of noob mistakes.

fwiw back when I started I was just doing features and it was just after grinding features for months that I attempted doing my first portrait

Maybe you should try the same, it will motivate you more to get easier things right like an eye, nose, lips but ...please try to focus on their forms rather than just copying blindly, as mem-ish as it sounds try to feel the roundness of the eye as you draw its eye lids, the solidness of a nose tip as it changes planes, etc...

I would have advanced faster if I had done the this, so please prioritize form over nice rendering.

Keep at it, draw every day, you will get better and drawing will become even more fulfilling

Try keys to drawing (to deal with symbol drawing) and then Perspective made easy. People recommend Robertson's How to draw but I find it overly technical and therefore discouraging (I haven't finished myself).

Firez man, I love your passion, even with all the shit you're getting on here you're not giving up, but you have to apply your fundamentals at some point.

look, most of your woman from imagination look like...Old children? attractive middle aged dwarf woman? I don't know how to describe it but basically your proportions are all over the godamn place.

the nose bridges you make, with that curve going inside is one of the main reasons. Only small children, and dwarves have that kind of curvature from the side. even asian woman who have very small nose bridges do not.
then your eyes are too freaking big, too far apart, and your nose too freaking small. scale down your eyes, put one eye space inbetween, and scale up your nose to match the eye.
finally your chin on this one is way too pointy, and your zygomatics way too large, side effect of the alien eyes.

If you simply use correct proportions, and only correct proportions while fixing one or two things your stuff would look so much better and much more appealing. Pic related is mostly your drawig with minor changes, but fixed proportions and look how much better it is.

Just my 2 fucking cents.

put down the Loomis book and look at some real people for once
not everyone's proportions are the same
you just made her look like an average white american woman in her 30s, they have more masculine features, especially more pronounced jaw line
firez's looks more european and younger, which actually makes sense since firez is not from America
not defending him, i still think he's shit, but these redlines are ridiculous and need to stop. not everyone should look like a character from Loomis book.

How do I properly set color setting up and export images right so they look like they do in Photoshop?
Right now the images I export look less saturated and overall worse.

Nice arms.

A 'halfway to black' is a good rule of thumb. Take the local value and drop shadows into a shade that's halfway to black.
If the light is very bright or the material very reflective, you can up the contrast a bit.

They arn't a strong point for me, but what I've learnd is to make sure that they stick in the local value of the object for most cases.
For example, if you are painting a black shirt than the value range shouldn't be in the 1-5 value range (unless its shiny or something).

Hope my handwriting isn't too hard to read. in general it looks like you're struggling with turning objects in 3d space. it's hard but keep going! it's a useful skill to have.
practice with simpler shapes (cylinders, beans, squares, etc) and work your way up. You can also trace topography on top of photos to see how the body turns in real life, or try to draw the cube/cylinder of the pelvis and rib cage on top of a model so you can get a better sense for how it fits into the human figure. Keep practicing and pushing yourself.
In a few spots (especially around the neck) you've drawn the muscles incorrectly. Muscular anatomy can be intimidating, but if you break it down into areas of the body (arms, back, front torso, neck, etc) you can teach yourself everything you need to know in a couple weeks. It's also good practice for learning to think in 3d.

>> No.3134973

ahhh thank you so much, and your handwriting is fine. I'm not sure what it means to trace topography, but everything else I'll do my best to practice! I don't think you can see it very well but I was actually trying to use boxes. I was really happy with the result because it looks a lot better than my usual stuff. Thank you again though and I'll keep at it
