Add new elements to things you copy.

Put a copied character into an original background, and add original characters to a copied background. It will take skill and effort to make this work,forcing perspectives of one to fit into the other,so it will be an educational effort.

Do you practice gestures often? I've found personally that taking a general to specific approach is effective when creating work. Gestures help me understand the human body personally and nude figures are often good references, even if that's not what you're drawing. The most important thing is capturing the movement/action of the pose.
