Outside of sakimichan the men tend to make more money though. Just looking though a lot of the patreons of people I follow the men seem to know business and marketing aspect way better and get more income, even if they are less 'popular'.

Also since I lurk the AA threads in cgl, a lot of female artists admit they get a portion of their sales from thirsty betas and get noticeable difference in attention when they cosplay, wear revealing outfits, have their boyfriend their etc.

However, despite men being a minority in AA the ones I've talked to make near the top end of AA profits and run it like a business, whereas outside of the most popular girl artists most of them treat it as a hobby and are losing a lot of potential sales and profit.

I don't know how you expected any different. /cgl/ is not a good place to get an idea for female artists and their sales. When i used to go to /cgl/ a few years ago there were only a few semi decent tumblr tier artists who were good at drawing. but either way, 95% of AA artists are mostly hobbyists who don't take art seriously to begin with and just go there to have fun. the few that do are usually older males who need the extra income.

I work at an art supply shop in a small art focused city that's pretty close with the local community, and I've noticed that even though it's commonly said art is a male dominated industry there are a LOT of female artists in this city, specifically old white female artists.

That's not to say many of them don't work hard, cause there's many female artists here that I admire that work their ass off as well as successful male artists that are total hacks, but status and economical placement have a hand in it. Being a rich white woman living off your husband's retirement with rich friends to buy your played out abstract expressionist paintings helps a bunch.

The first thing potential clients or customers care about is the quality of your work and how they like it. The second is your price. If the client is a real studio / company and not a private commissioner, they also care a lot about your previous work experiences. Next would be how you conduct yourself professionally and your ability to keep deadlines. Maybe there are some clients who do prefer hiring women after all of those mentioned things were considered, but it definitely isn't nearly as high up their priority list as you think.
