Fairly common actually. Thinking about having done something feels good - not as good as actually doing it but also without any of the necessary effort. All in all, it's better to dream about something than doing the hard work to make it happen. In the short term, at least.

Only solution to break the loop is to schedule some time and begin no matter what. It'll become an habit after a time and feels better than dreaming about it.

i also feel this way, my thing is i write it down. all the characters and ideas, so beautify and grandiose so flawless and perfect, i haven't drawn in over 5 years, just here dreaming so every time i see the book i write stuff i am reminded of my failure. you're not alone.

How do you guys copy stuff you see? My drawing process seems so random, I just start with the outlines, going here and there, often becoming engrossed in details. Shouldn't you start drawing the shapes or something?

Grids and taking advantage of negative space. On paper you can make do with marking the borders. Measure twice before you draw, start with big rough shapes, then do outlines and refine, constantly going back to measure

It's important to get one thing right, then you can base other measurements on that, and try to divide things into halves and thirds as much as possible

Yeah pretty much, this is an old webcam pic but you get the jist

You don't have to draw all over the reference but it's important to at least get an idea of the middle of it. Use a ruler, pen or your thumb and index finger, whatever works

Everybody has one dominant eye which will lead to miscalculations in some direction. You get used to it and eventually learn how to compensate. for instance, I always put things lower and make them taller than they're supposed to be
