What do you draw when you don't know what to draw?

Floating heads or torsos

At times like that it's best to do studies.

I feel like I've become really adept at drawing two different things. Female faces and female torsos.

It's when I have to do a full figure I have to bring out the references like a little bitch.

Maybe I should become the guro artist I always wanted to be and only draw dismembered women with no arms or legs.

Here's a list of things to try from the top of my head in no particular order:
>something on the desk
>a pet, family memeber, or friend
>a butt, penis, puss, titties, whatever you find particularly attractive
>cubes and other basic shapes
>try a new material and just doodle (markers, coffee, sticky notes, whatever)
>Try drawing silhouettes and random shapes and fitting something into them
>Studies (anatomy, textures, lighting, perspective, plants, whatever)
>Gesture drawings
>fanart
>design something you would use (like a pencil case)
>See how many X (hairstyles? Shoes? Patterns?) you can come up with in 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, whatever
>find something bad and make it good (deviantart is good for this)
>use a prompt generator and force yourself to draw the first thing (I have Jazza's Arty Games for PC if anyone's interested?)
>draw what you wore today
>draw what you ate today
>draw a place you went today
>make an alien or fantasy creature
>something on a draw thread and make an anon's day
>self portrait
>Draw something you wouldn't usually draw (if you draw loli, draw some trees, etc.)
>try a silly challenge
>draw something regular, then draw it again but as ridiculously as you can
>re-draw an old piece of art you made
>'what if...' fill in the blank. What if horses had hands, what if aeroplanes used legs instead of wheels, etc.

In general if you're struggling for ideas, draw something that doesn't need an idea. I used to stuggle for ideas before I tried a self-imposed challenge in which I made a finished piece every day for a month. Now the ideas and inspiration come quickly. I think it's really about being able to turn your thoughts into an image, even if your thoughts aren't very interesting. Godspeed anon.
