Is he right?

Everything he says is right. I think he even wrote a book about it.

All I know is that I started digitally and used a bunch of the functions as crutches, a while ago I tried traditional for shits and giggles and realised I can't even draw a good box.

Traditional is harder than digital and good traditional skills transfer over to digital but not the other way around

yeah same. I guess there are too many shortcuts in digital drawing that really hamper your progress if you don't know your shit

>> No.3063148

>>3063135
I agree with that somewhat
I started drawing traditionally but can't deny the fact digital let's you have many shortcuts. I'm so reliant on layers these days
I can make the messiest sketches then slap another layer on top to clean them up. With traditional I usually need to carefully think of my lines

I haven't attempted digital yet but imagine it's similar to playing guitar vs bass.

A good guitarist should be able to pick up a bass guitar and play almost to the abiliity of their regular one (with a plectrum maybe).

However, a bassist is simply not gonna be able to do the fine motor movements that higher notes on the guitar require, without practice.

>>3063160
Other way around buddy. Bassists can work pretty well on a guitar without any practice, matbe just a few minutes of fiddling with it.

Agree, guitar after bass is easy

>> No.3063179

Depending on the hardware you're using to draw digitally, the transition can be rougher, but starting off traditionally is the way to go. You start forming negative habits that become crutches later on with digital. boosts confidence and work speed too.

Its change person to person but my opinion he is right for most of people.
For myself, drawing traditional is easier than digital but painting digital is easier than traditional.

What? On bass you really mostly are playing one note at a time, because bass frequencies muddy up so easily. That's at least one gigantic difference between guitar.

I was getting more at guitar solos and shredding and the like. Doesn't really translate well into bass as the higher notes are underutilised.

What is bass' skill that a guitarist can't learn from guitar apart from maybe slapping or the picking style?
