>> No.3062351

>>3062314

I think you're overthinking your background. Just keep it really simple. Basically let the characters dictate what's going on. Just have everything "pointing" at the areas of interest and fill in the indication for perspective after that. As long as you have some diagonal lines it's gonna look pretty awesome. Why'd you kill her mid section btw? It was looking okay imo. I'd do an overpaint but I'm too drunk for that now... No need to fix her legs this time. Nostalgia...

What's important here is the focal point which is the witch. She has a neutral, centered angle and suggests a rather low vanishing point. I think it should be fine if you lowered the horizon, flattened the road considerably and maybe foreshortened the houses more. I don't like the dynamic extreme look of the alternate version, it's a bit cheesy.

man, nobody pointed out the biggest default in the composition being the first characters pose and size. he's fucking up the whole perspective and his pose is too unnatural/uncohesive with the witch.

I just enlarged him a little since he's in the fore plan, tilted his head down, arched his back a little and the picture is much more interesting now even without the perspective changes. just my 2cents.

I also prefer the second version of your witch by the way, much more dynamic. keep it up.

I dunno. I was thinking it would bring a feeling of claustrofobia and shit. I posted my crap earlier and one guy was all for framing it down so I wouldn't have that shit on the borders and another wanted me to expand it to show more of the borders. I'm still kind of playing around with the idea. Some people like it and others don't. I think it works for the narrative of the image but I might get rid of it...

Just came back from the bar and started working on my Hinox designs. I really hate the art direction in the new Zelda game (I know it's a good game but still) and I'm gonna try and do some "traditional Japanese demon" thing on my characters here. Would love some feedback/ideas on that too. I think I'll make them red. Red's cool...

Thanks either way.

I'll definitely use the horse for reference because I don't know anything about painting horses. I did make a simple Design Doll pose for Link here (pic related) though but I just referenced it instead of dropping it into my illustration. A lot of times I'll actually sculpt my shit in ZBrush and paint over it for a quick result.

My canvas is ~8600 by ~5200. Canvas size isn't really something I think about. I'll just rez it up when I feel like I'm not able or if I feel like my brushes aren't doing what whey're supposed to be doing. Some brushes work better when they're big.

>everything is fine besides the fingers
Holy shit nigger, I really hope YOU don't do redlines. There's a lot wrong with >>3065960 and I think most of it has to do with the fact that Anon studied muscles in one position and then, having never studied what they looked like stretching, tried painting a pose that was out of his current knowledge. It's either that or he simply doesn't understand the forms of each muscle, or maybe the bad values are completely failing at accurately showing what could maybe be a somewhat anatomically correct painting.

Dunno about how important blind contours are in general, but I find them fun and helpful for understanding objects. Also, I feel like you could focus less on the actual contour (lel) of an object and try exploring and developing the forms/planes of it.

those are thick numerous folds for a thicker fabric. What's holding them up? The sleeve end needs to be thicker to fight gravity. Thin and light fabrics hang very loosely, with fewer folds. Folds multiply around twists and turns, propagate downwards and are not evenly spaced out. You should have much fewer folds towards the top and twist the angles downward

I like the coat and the texture of it, gives a sense of 3d. The hair and the skin are not like that, they need to have some feeling of space as well, maybe try to shade or crosshatch the oval of the upper arm and a reference for the hair or something. The face is a bit off, try to add some construction lines so the viewer (and you) gets a feeling of where in space it should be and go from there, like a center line for the head.

Otherwise I like it, cheers

>advanced symbol drawing, go do some sight size training
I don't know what the statues looked like or how light reflected of their surfaces etc, so keep that in mind.
1. the shapes are very good, it's clear that you were very carefull laying them down, everything looks really flat, and that's mostly due to the big thick pen line everywhere outlining all the shadows and details.
2. You need to do more sight size training until you can move on to suggesting form instead of outlining shapes
You don't have to pay to do it's as simple copying what you see, you don't need to set up a traditional atelier in your bedroom.
3. When I mentioned symbol drawing I'm talking about the faces, (I don't know what the statues looked like), about a year ago I did a very large amount of self portraits to learn to draw faces. My facial features became my symbols for facial features and for a while after that every face I drew have that way of drawing a nose, ears, lips ect even if the markers were different. That's what I mean by advanced symbol drawing, and the faces have that quality about them. I don't think you belong in beg anymore.

very engaging, i think you need to do more careful studies though, your values especially are amateurish (but not bad), i also think you lack refinement in general. and the way to get better at that stuff is careful painting from life (or a photo if you're a non-physical emergent intelligence who lives solely within the internet)

I agree that it is very flat, I probably should've used crosshatching to make it more 3d, or pushed the values more
I'll be more careful about the faces, especially cause the greeks had a very particular way of sculpting faces (straight noses, big eyes far apart from eachother, small mouths, round chins,...) photo realism is usually achieved in the fine details, like the little droplets of moisture around the eyes, pores in skin, etc.
