If you were given a task to become a professional artist in 2 years or else you would die, (assuming you want to live) how would you do it? What's the plan?

I would give someone else the task of making me a professional artist in 2 years, or else they would die.

> become a professional artist in 2 years or die

If I had to get gud fast... and this question is asked several times a week on this board... and not in the Questions General thread, of course not... how would I do it?

You should contact your local Mortuary services in advance. Or ask in the Questions General thread. Your choice.

Just as >>3059705 said you are "professional" just by earning money so 2 years isn't a problem.

I would go homeless on purpose to get maximum government aid for community college. Take basic art classes like life drawing and /gd/ tier shit that'll help. Use the reimbursement check for food. Sell all my things and get a decent laptop and chink tablet. Live in my car and shower at a gym. Use the wi-fi at the school for anything I need to get online. Use every waking hour the public library is open to draw. Not a bad lifestyle for 2 years.

This is actually a good hypothetical. I'd definitely hit the books (finally) and do simple studies every day. I'd finally touch up on my rendering skills thru a combination of multi-hour studies and once again, hitting the books.

>> No.3059916

Becoming a professional illustrator is not nearly as hard as people think. If you're strapped for cash, draw in a trendy, easy-to-execute style for things people need. Everyone here is so focused on the generic fantasy/sci-fi/concept route that they forget that there are other, simpler avenues of illustration. I guarantee you that there are tons of businesses in your area that could use an illustrator for a few projects.

Also, people focus so, so hard to getting good that they never practice their business and networking skills on top of it. Learning how to reach out and pitch your services as an illustrator is incredibly easy to do, but instead people just throw their bullshit up on social media accounts for years and years while scratching their heads saying "Why haven't I made it yet"?

The fact that people in this thread are responding that "furry porn" is the way to go just shows how out of touch /ic/ is. Don't take advice from /ic/ - place largely made up of wanna-be professionals who have never had a steady stream of commercial illustration work.

Well, Drawabox does, and I've an old method (1966) by Joseph Lllobera, and it begins with Perspective. He justifies it by quoting Loomis, who apparently said that one should begins with perspective or will forever lack something when studying the other fundies.

Anyway, it sure isn't fun to begin by 8 weeks of perspective.

I would advise caution: firstly because I searched in the Archives and found a few people getting hype over getting gud fast through that super-packed program but couldn't find anyone claiming to have gone through it entirely and posting his progress.

Secondly because Aguri is an anime girl and not a real person. You shouldn't trust anyone to schedule the next 2 years of your life if he doesn't back it up with a job similar to the one you're aiming for.

that's not a bad idea actually. though i agree 8 weeks can dissuade someone to continue, but i assume this list is for people who are serious and can have a bit of discipline.

you can swap out the olson perpspective video with gnomon's or vandruff's.

I am, I started on Perspective knowing jack shit and then moved on to Scott and Peter Han, which I am currently doing (5 months in total of work, and stopped drawing for 3 months). I know jack shit about most skills, but at least I can know attempt to analyze things and draw them in perspective so I can build up my visual library.

I feel like I have learned a lot in just 5 months of work that I did, to be honest. If I had continue at that rythm, I would probably be much better know. Maybe If I get back to it and continue for a whole year, I might be able to start making some money.

Only the first two episodes, the P51 was done just by following Scott Robertson and trying to figure shit out by analyzing the assignments the FZD students were given.

I plan on finishing Olson and some point though, what he teaches in invaluable but right now my time is better spent gathering up my visual library and improving my Visual communication Peter Han style (pic related as one of his works)

The exercises in pic related is what they are made to do, everyday. Draw everyday objects, plants, insects, animals, heavy vehicles, military stuff.

Everything you draw, must be draw through construction, like the example in ''Projects you should be striving to do'', not a mere copy from life, but an analysis. That's how you really learn fast.

>> No.3060683

Yep, you are absolutely right friend. Do enough perspective till you internalize it, but remember you don't need to know all the techniques to start FZD, pretty much all you need is to internalize how to draw boxes from different angles so you can draw them free hand, and work your way from there.

Doing every construction drawing by making vanishing points and all the measuring is something one does at the very beginning to really learn it and internalize it, after that it becomes really, really time consuming and unnecessary. (This is when Peter Han teachings start to matter, right after Scott Robertson How to Draw Book).
Good luck Anon, don't give up!.

i was doing drawabox but got stuck on the 250 boxes because i didn't know how to draw in 3-point perspective. now i'm doing vandruff, next scott's how to draw, then peter han.

i'm now convinced that most people can't get good (like deviantart or tumblr randoms) because they never go over perspective or serious exercises despite drawing for hours a day.

thanks anon for all your help :)

Come on, now. Why do you think it's mostly Twitter?

You don't have to reach out in person (though those are always the strongest connections). Instead, there's this wonderful thing called "E mail" where you can directly send a nice, detailed message right to someones inbox. In these "E mails", you can create hyperlinks directing people to your main portfolio site, and you can even attach relevant work.
