its been almost 2 years now since i started to draw and paint with a goal in mind, "can i make a painting that looks like it was made by ruan" the answer is 60-70% yes, if you look at the drawing from 1m away and ignore the ugly brush strokes that overlay and have ugly shapes, i can not for all the things i broke down and all the studies i did figure out how to obtain the "clean" this images have, at least not in the 5-10 hours i spent to draw, i know some of you pointed out he spends between 100-500 hours on some complex painting.
I do not aim to be a discount ruan jia clone like other chinks try to do but i want to learn his way of thinking when it comes to playing with colors and shapes

Dunning-Kruger. Maybe you are 60% towards copying some of the very superficial stylistic choices, but what sets him apart from all his clones is his really solid sense of design when it comes to all aspects of painting--edges, shapes, saturation, value, detail etc. This stuff isn't easily copied or learned. Trying to copy him means you will never reach anything near his level since you are taking his choices out of context and trying to apply it to your image instead of doing what he does which is problem solve and come up with solutions for each individual image.

you are correct, except the dunning kruger part, i can pull a 1:1 study of some of his works, but that's just about every study out there, many can do 1:1 if they have the time and patience.
There aren't many videos of him out there detailing his process and i want to learn his way of thinking, why that specific green color, why that shape, why those specific brush textures at that exact blending spot between 3 colors etc.
It won't make me happy being Jia clone no. 1000, specially when there are clones of him out there who are far more better and experienced than i am.

Unless you use the latest version of Photoshop. I can comfortably work in 20k+ pixels with several layers, crazy brushes, and no lag. Though I do have 24Gb of ram, not sure if that helps a lot.

I'm a different anon who posted the 1:4 study, and not the OP who said he can do a 1:1. I thought people were just posting their Jia studies, so I contributed the sketch. It's not even a quarter finished, but I appreciate the critique. I'll have to spend a month or so on it to even somewhat resemble the original at my /beg/ skill level. Thanks for being brutally honest though, it's hard to come by when normally asking for critiques.
