Ohhh okay lol those aren't tips and tricks dawg but I get what you're asking about.

Start by reading Figure drawing for all it's worth by loomis (it's in the sticky!), or bridgman's constructive anatomy. See which one you like more and go with it. I'm guessing it'll be loomis until you're more advanced.

The only major caveat I have with loomis is that when you're looking at his sheets for proportions, they are stylized (makes sense for the time period he's from though) so look around at other sources as well.

Pic related is from atlas of human anatomy for the artist by peck.

When you've gotten past beginner stage and want more in depth knowledge or need help with how muscles will look in a pose, my favorite book is anatomy for sculptors by Sandis Kondrats and Uldis Zarins.

Hope this stuff might help some

it's like I have my own internet, for days when my internet is down.

My goal is to become like kjg, so I download everything which looks useful and when I am in the mood to draw something I just do it, I don't have to google it.

I don't like to google when I want to draw because by the time I found something cool I lost interest. Having it in my pc means it's always 5 clicks away and no filtering for shit

>> No.3043000

>>3042853
sure

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ank-pixiv-tool/

it only works with firefox tho, so you will have to install it if you don't have it

an icon will appear in the top right corner next to the search bar. You right click on it and options will pop up, including the folder you want to save it. Make sure to always change the location if you have a folder for each artist between them when downloading otherwise it will be a mess

a con is that to download pics you can't just point to an artist and download everything posted by him, you will have to go on each of his drawings page and left click said icon. I am telling you this because I found no video or text explaining this and is not intuitive, at first I thought it was not working, clicking on the icon when your page was anywhere than on the page of the picture you wanted to save will prompt you to the homepage

The advantage is that if an artists posted like 50 pics in one post it will download all of them, and even in normal situation where is just one pic is easier since you won't have anymore to click on the pic, then drag it after it zoomed, then backspace to the previous page. Also use the keyboard arrows. In case you didn't know, on pixiv you can use the right and left arrow to brows thru the post of an artist.

So when downloading, first I make a folder with the artist name, then right click the downloader icon and set it to download in said folder, then I go on the last post of said artist and start downloading. My right hand is on the mouse over the icon clicking on each page, and my left hand is on the right arrow key.

Sometimes it might appear an error and say it could not save it. Don't worry, the program will mark each downloaded post with red, and each post waiting to download with green. So going back to the ''works'' page of an artist you can see easy what pics got saved and not, and simply try again. It's rare to give the same error twice on the same pic.

pic source?

Currently studying Creative Marker Techniques. The techniques mentioned are pretty much draw-the-fucking-owl tier but the art itself is pretty decent. A nice reference book, I guess. From the same author, Quick & Easy Solutions to Marker Techniques is a much more elaborate book on the materials and techniques themselves. Both of these books are pretty fun to look at if you love that 80s aesthetic.

Anyway, I am searching for books of the same vein. What are some of your favourite books on product design drawing?

>Screenwriting

Alright, first read Backwards and Forwards by David Ball. It's only about 100 pages but it is gold. Everything you need to know about dramatic writing is in here. If you read one book, read this one.

For more detail on structure, read Into the Woods: A Five Act Journey into Story by John Yorke.

Film Crit Hulk's Screenwriting book is also very good. Mainly for debunking The Hero's Journey, Three Act storytelling and other cancerous Hollywood ideas.

Finally, read some real fucking books mate. Read Shakespeare, Chekhov, Fitzgerald, Joyce, Greek Tragedies, Eliot, Austen, Munro etc etc etc closely and find out why they work. Writers choose their words very carefully. What purpose does that sentence serve? Why did they choose that word there? Why did they end a paragraph like that? What does her dialogue say about her wants and needs and feelings? Read closely.

Three Acts is bullshit. Inciting incident - Crisis - Climax? How is this useful? Can anyone even define these terms? 'Something starts it all and then some stuff happens and then it ends'. Thanks mate, really helpful. Here's some proper advice, 1) You can use as many acts as you want, 2) if you're new to this, a good default is five acts as is typically done in theatre (check Shakespeare out!) and 3) drama is more important than structure (read that David Ball book for goodness sake).

The Hero's Journey is a functional template, but is one out of billions of possible structures and doesn't teach you the How or the Why of storytelling. It truly is paint by numbers. It's also predictable and therefore boring, and laced with misogyny. Cry and moan about SJWs and political correctness all you want but bad female characters makes for bad writing. If you're male, this should be top priority for you because unless you actively work against culture's gravitational pull, your female characters are going to be fucking shit (not even bad, I mean fucking shit) and the world is growing increasingly less patient for men who can't write women. Don't say you weren't warned.

Case study, why is British television drama is so consistently good and highly regarded? It's because their TV industry cross pollinates with their theatre industry aka people who actually know how to write. They don't have this three act nonsense. They use five acts like Shakespeare did. The self centered machismo of the Hero's Journey also doesn't mesh well with a country whose literary tradition was built by gay men, working class reformists and women. America's current golden age of television is just mimicking what the Brits were already doing but with bigger American budgets.

So, I bought a graphic tablet (NEW 1060 PLUS) but I'll admit it I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed since this is all new to me, I've never drawn anything digital before, I was strictly drawing traditional before. I downloaded a bunch of programs to see whether everything was working as intended or not. I think I'll try to get good with Clip Studio Paint I think as I read good things about it.

Anyway, does anyone have any tips or advice? Like some sort of course, stuff I could read or whatever I could follow to reach a point where I more or less know what I'm doing? I don't mean drawing-wise but more like tool-wise. I'd just really like some tips, guidelines and advice if possible.
Probably not the right thread for that but who knows. Thanks for reading.

Let me play devil's advocate for this as well as literally any art book anyone requests here: If the person was a big enough fan they'd probably buy it. I want to see it out of curiousity because I enjoyed the game before tumblr ruined any chance I could ever enjoy talking about it, but i'd never shell out money considering Toby's art style isn't that great or even unique. But seeing concept work really interests me so i'm glad some anons posted a link.

Hell I've even looked at art books for things I hate before because again, just curiosity.

toby's art is bad, but a lot of the art is done by people with art talent like gigi dg(draws cucumber quest)
i think the main thing that makes it a bad book is the lack of commentary. toby wants undertale to speak for itself, which is good, but makes for a boring process book when he is flippant and offhand about everything.
