a cyborg ninja is a very common concept.
you can easily distinguish Genji from Gray Fox, or raiden.

the thing about this type of "plagiarism" is that you can find dozens of examples that make the bottom one look like a copy as well. White haired evil dude with sword is like one of the biggest fantasy tropes ever and he's doing the fucking Skeletor pose. There's a very high chance that no one at Blizzard who worked on the frozen throne ever even saw the bottom illustration.

Eh, the design philosophies are different enough to say it's more of an homage. One is connected with cold, the other is connected with chaos or darkness. One is damn near soulless, the other is a more clever evil.

And there are tons of stories about cursed swords and brooding rulers. If anything this is a writing issue.

My guess it has to do with the white man's fear of the black man's innate strength and virility. By making them disabled and reliant on the white man's technology they become less threatening to their creator, and to the readers as well. Most every person in America has run into a young black man, or more likely an entire pack of them, and been scared shitless by their physicality and overt sexuality.

I know this because I think and feel these things. My own media, whether its stories or drawings, never has any black people in it. My ideal world only has white people of European descent, and they all have pink nipples. Does this mean I think black people act and behave in a certain way? No, that's just racist, but I do believe in statistics. For whatever reason, a black man is more likely to mug me on the street than a white one. Say what you will about the reasons, but that is a fact.

Arthas is basically Archaon, both in History and design-wise.
Dragons are taken from D&D, a lot of monsters like Gnolls too.
I'm sure 90% of WoW stuff could be tracked back to something older, they just put everything together.
Their original stuff is mostly variation on older tropes of sword & sorcery.

What >>3021664 says. The fact that Gnome are engineers is taken from Dragonlance, Paladins are a mix of D&D Paladins and Priests of Sigmar. Historical Paladins didn't wear a big book and a bigger hammer and couldn't cast Heal magic, etc.

It isn't like they try to hide their influences, the 8 rare tomes to collect in Dalaran are named after the 8 Schools of Magic of D&D.

They took stuff from a lot of things, I wouldn't call it plagiarazing, it's not like people should be forbidden to use Orcs outside of LotR or as if D&D didn't "borrow" a thousand things too (like Hobbits).

Ok so i had a question about "making references"

So I'm developing an original story. Originally, I was inspired by a song, for now let's say that somg was Bon Jovi's Livin on a Prayer.
In my story, the main character has these recurring nightmares, and within them a person is talking. The words they're saying reference a verse in Bon Jovi's song. Let's say I take 2 or 3 lines and pretty much copypaste them. Then maybe in another dream more lines are unveiled, and so on, for a few dreams. Bon jovi isn't actually singing in the story, but the words still make sense in the context of the story.

Could I get sued for doing that?
How does a show like JoJo make so many musical references ( important characters, mind you) and get away with it?
