Anyone have something for aligning the jaw tip with the cranium for sideview/angle heads?

On a semi-related note, I've come to the conclusion that a difference between male and female heads is that the jaw-cranium connection point seems to be a little higher up on females than males. Am I onto something or am I horrendously off?

I fucking hate that tutorial and it lights my fuse every damn time. It's 100% about the style side mouth and smart brows thing too. I can't stand when retards try to pontificate on the basis of "style". It's retarded as fuck and I don't know why any cartoonist would ever think it makes them sound smart to discount things people do in cartoons. Especially when more successful cartoonists do the exact things they say you're allegedly not supposed to do.

I suggest you try to forget you ever saw this image.

Look at pic related instead. One of the most fundamental things you need to learn is to first separate light from shadow with in two flat tones and not get distracted by all the mid tones and highlights.

Disney Renaissance has crap tier artists but yes, the side mouth is not only easy to draw, it lets you see more clearly what the mouth is doing, it can function as a staging tool. Smart brows aka Dreamworks face on the other hand is a unnatural stock expression that only few people in real life actually do (like Dwayne the Rock Johnson, pretty easy to see why Disney used him in their latest movie). The guy criticizes stock expressions, but 90% of his expressions are stock; they don't present unique characteristics or have specific contexts.

I like to do drills by tracing fundamental shapes from different angles. Yeah yeah, fuck tracing but you're just trying to train your drawing muscles by doing this. Try doing a few drills every day until you start seeing improvement. It's dull as fuck, but try tracing ten squares, circles, and triangles both clockwise and counterclockwise every day. It'll have some effect.

Look at his sample comic he uses to show off his expressions. There is nothing to me that gives me the context of the characters being perverted besides their dialogue. They as they shy away from the person they are aroused from they just do stock worried and scared expressions and the guy on the right does a facepalm for some reason (facepalms are really terrible, forced expressions when people make them instantaneous like that). No context to the expressions at all. Every base expression has to be modified some way to make it specific, otherwise it's stock.

The other anon is half-right.

You need to start with a HARD brush first to lay down your colors, then graduallly get softer and softer until you're airbrushing to smooth out everything.

Going too soft too soon usually results in muddy colors. It's also possible you're making bad color choices anon, do you might showing an example of your work? Even if you just fudge out a sphere or something.

Here's one in color that shows it well.

The problem with some programs airbrush in my experience (Like sai's) is they add a grey tone to the color to help soften it, which if you're using it from the beginning is going to make your art look dirty in the end. Some programs might not have that issue, and if you're doing a very quickly airbrushed piece (Some jap techniques that are less painted) it won't be an issue either.

really depends. hope this helped you anon

Anime art is the most boring close-minded style ever. It looks bland, factory-made, flat and uninspired
It's all just the same retarded dead eyes and mongoloid "cute" features
It looks so bland and stupid that it became a gateway to weird degenerate fetishes. It is literally the only thing it's good at : making you live in the delusion that a chick with a 11 inches cock and gigantic udder can somehow have good "aesthetics"
And slowly turning you into a loser completely disconnected from reality
Anime art looks like shit and is undeniably inferior to western comics art
It exists because it is a convenient gimmicky product that artists can draw fast without thinking much about it.
You just like it so much because you have autism
