If you are a /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

The frontal view looks okay, but it's better to make the eyes bigger. Not put them closer, just make them bigger horizontally. Other than that, you've grasped the proportions correctly this time. At least that's what I think.
3/4 face has something very wrong... oh, right, the far eye. Don't be afraid to put it closer to the border of the head. And his nose seems too long; make it shorter.

Your plane constructions don't look right. The top one is simply constructed incorrectly (follow the head's outlines when drawing planes or middle lines). The bottom one is a certified alien. Ears are too big (protruding), eyes are too far apart, the head shape is too off.

As for the study, it's hard to day anything. The shapes are too unclear. I think the brow ridge is too straight, and there's something about his month, but I can't say anything definite until I see your reference.

New here, I started to do a Croquis cafe study daily as a way to ease myself into the daily habit because I'm a procrastinator.
I was originally speed-outlining the figures for about 4 days before this and not trying to draw the gesture. Was it a good decision to switch? I saw proko's video on how to draw gesture yesterday and so I thought what I was doing before was the wrong way.

So that "brow ridge" was actually his glasses, huh.
If the viewer can't even tell that your character is wearing glasses, that means you did a really sloppy job drawing them. And even if I force my imagination to draw them for you, your portrait still looks like an entirely different person. One that looks like an American movie actor who's used to play brutal dudes. Or, at least, a stern and aged scientist of Germanic descent.
The reasons for this are his much manlier chin and his less round (and generally longer) face. Your values are also not good enough.

Just hoping to get some of the standard ways that people have learned how to properly learn the fundamentals of coloring and valuing their work.

Are there standard resources that everyone uses when they start? General do's/don't that you have would be invaluable too. I just don't know where to begin, and I want to start "the right way" if there is one.

This is one of my first value studies. Why do I suck so much? It just seems that it is all muddy and sloppy, the forms don't read well. Is it because there is no contrast? Or the edge control is nonexistent. Also, I can't get the realism, it is flat.

*cough* I like this but the mouth lacks definition and I can't tell whether it's open or closed. As for likeness I think the shapes on the right eye are off, and the nose might be too wide on the left side by just a touch. I think the bottom lip shapes are off too, although I'm not sure how. Now that I look at it more I think the eyes aren't aligned correctly to look like the models, I think they're tilted too much.

Obviously a solid drawing nonetheless, I'd like to see you take it to completion.

Learn how to draw lines properly. Define the edges of forms with cleaner lines, it'll generate starker contrast between objects making them easier to read.

Basically you're outlining of each object is terrible. Having such scribbly lines amongst a bunch of hatching will of course make it hard to see anything.

You draw like you have no patience.

I could tell the brow line but I agree on some level.. like part of the sloppiness is probably due to the copying/quality of the photo but look at the neck and chin shadow that is missing and the left eyebrow, there are many parts left undefined. Studying the head planes and proportions would help you be able to place lines confidently and landmarks of the face even in a situation where the photo is degraded or hard to define.

Would anyone here know something about this:

When ever I try to draw anything, there's a natural tail to every curved line I draw. I normally draw digitally so I have a set stabilizer that gets rid of it, but traditionally and on anything less than the one stabilizer setting I use, all my curved lines have a natural tail.

The image posted shows what I mean. I've tested if it was just the program I used or if it was just me by drawing with pen/pencil and paper, and the tail always shows up. Why does my hand do this? How can I train my hand to stop doing this? It usually happens when I move my hand to leave the paper.

There's multiple reasons this can occur, first and foremost is the thought of drawing a circle instead of focusing on the line itself. Without the muscle memory it might be too hard to create near perfect circles every time. First, think of imaginary points in your line before you even start the line and use them as reference points, kind of like connecting the dots. Second don't make every circle starting at the top going counter clockwise, try from every starting point. Third consider your workspace, unless you're working on a very small surface, your wrist will only naturally get the circle smoothly for about 180 degrees of it before readjusting, for larger pages or canvas, draw from the elbow or arm.

You actually did well this time, my congratulations. If you continue like this, you might surpass my head anatomy knowledge pretty soon. Here's another amateurish redline. I couldn't figure out how to properly redline the small 3/4 head, so just look at Mr. Э]FIЯ and note his proportions.

For alignment, try this technique: see the slightly curving horizontal lines on those 3/4 heads? Now, draw any facial element, then draw such a line aligned with it, then just draw several parallel lines going through the places where you want the bottoms of other facial elements to be. Practice drawing parallel curves on an empty sheet first. The curvature depends on the angle. Those lines are actually straight horizontal lines, cross-sections of the face or how do they call those.

Use a cube to build the framework for the head, your filename suggests you're using loomis but the lines I can see don't actually construct anything, construction lines ar edesigned to solve problems, the like problem of the tilt of the head or proportion of the freatures in perspective. Bridgeman advises against using a sphere and opts for using a cube for the head for just that reason, the sphere doesn't help you solve any problems.

You have improved slightly, but your guys still lack cranium, your drawings still lack perspective, and you give those of your heads that are viewed from below WAY too imposing chins. You may start actually drawing ears now instead of ellipses.

I marked the heads that look relatively better than others and those that look irredeemably worse than average. Compare them and learn what makes the first group better. Also use my examples of profile outlines to make better side views.

Give yourself more credit anon, you really didn't do that bad. It's a little boring, but you're practicing so it's not like it has to be amazing. I only mention it because that might shape your own opinions on it; of course you're going to think the other guy is amazing if he draws something more interesting. The construction of the tip of the nose is off, and his left eye looks lazy. All that leaves is the linework.

As a rough, it's great. You have a base, just start a new layer and draw over it. The trick is to draw long, single strokes. Do not accept any line you have to go over more than once. If you catch yourself doing this, get rid of it and do it over.

Figure Drawing for All It's Worth (also the Vilppu Drawing Manual and Hampton's Design and Invention). The only others I would recommend for manga are the others in the Sketching series, and How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way is a little simple but could also help.

Letting lines flow is exactly what you want, but you're doing the opposite; you use a hundred very short lines to make one solid line. Everyone does that early on just because they're afraid they'll mess it up. It's good that you're not erasing, now force yourself to cut down from 100 to 10 (not 1; no one expects you to get every line first try).

>symbol drawing
>symbol drawing with shitty symbols, including:
>weird tumblr lip
>zigzag spikyteeth, and on a human
>meme eyebrows going off head
>dark red void mouth with retarded tongue
>zigzag wound, paper thin skull, pink mashed potato
>sweet droop blood
>hashtag scratches
>circlehead, no neck, not even any chin
It's pretty nice! :) keep on drawing!

It heavily depends on the background and the lightning, bruh. Have you heard of a thing called "color theory"?
Anyway, the first set works better for pale skin, but you need to make it closer to white.

I'm just starting out with drawing on the right side of the brain and my first attempt of upside down drawing came out like this, I've kind of spooked myself that I'm going to learn wrong due to this outcome. Is it normal for a first attempt to come out like this or am I not thinking the right way about this?
