If you are a /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

applying what i learned from studies in an imagination thing

>> No.2915784

I'm new to this whole artfaggery bullshit and all so I gotta ask...

When I see those "draw it again" memes, does it really take 3 years to improve slightly? Or are they just retards?

>> No.2915787

>>2915784
In drawing, a person improves with each stroke to be honest. What you call "slightly" is really thousands of incremental improvements which is what we're doing all the time. Just very small increments to try and reach that giant goal. It's very subjective when looking at others because you can't tell what's going on in their mind. It makes more sense when you actually draw and realize just how many things you find out along the way and how books, people and just about every resource can't tell you a lot of stuff you learn.

It is for that person. It might not be for another. It's super subjective.

You improve at your own pace, worrying about speed will only slow you down.

Even /fit/'s could be improved a lot, simplified and made easily digestible even for a brain dead idiot.

The /ic/ sticky could be god-tier easily if we pooled out our knowledge together.

It could easily kick the ass of any art school curriculum program along with said art teachers, or college professors back to kingdom come.

It's a damn shame that /ic/ as a whole is rather jadded and broken, though that is what drives some to quicker improvements. Not so much /ic/ as a hug box coming together, but as a community to improve the board, threads and improvements.

we need a dedicated effort to clean if up and not have it hosted on fucking google docs.

basic sections such as:
"im a complete beginner, what do i do for the first 2 months" that links you to, keys, drawabox, right side maybe and the other 3d space exercises.
"figure section" that has villpu, hampton, the relevant youtube vids etc
"heads/portraits" that is loomis and variants
then the different mediums like cntrl+paint for digital then rendering sutff for paint and pencil

at the beginning it has that video that tells you to draw 6 hours a day if you want to git gud.
i think in theory it should have very little original content save for a brief mention of concepts such as symbol drawing, 3d space, realism then style. it should mostly link to professionals talking about things rather than have fucking nosebro explain them.

If a group of anon's dedicated their time to actual having a complete overhaul of it, it would be the shinning glory of /ic/.

didn't get any help in the drawthread so reposting here:

what can i improve on for the future? the lighting conditions changed slightly as i did this over a few sessions, so more obvious stuff like the different lengths of form shadow and highlight placement on the pomegranate, or the brightness of the pepper reflection i'm aware of.

this is about two months in of muh serious practice, dunno if this is reasonable progress. plan to do a couple more of these before trying portraits, figures, and acrylics.

a few q's: will painting color/value studies irl help with digital rendering? i feel like it should be easier going into digital.

also, how do you guys approach planning out values? any good books on this? how would you approach this: for example on the pomegranate there's a clear reflection of the cloth and the "reflection" of its own cast shadow... do you just approach it as if it were a matte surface first and only use halftones, and erase later?

I think digital art should come later on after traditional drawing practices and exercises, I believe heavily in the meme that starting on traditional works is better up to the point of b/w value. Learning color would be better suited towards digital painting, as irl can be messy, expensive and time consuming.

Thinking of this from an ergonomic, financial and practical viewpoint. Most people can grab a shitty ole' #2 pencil and some printer paper and begin immediately. Though even in today's world, not everyone has access to a personal computer or the resources for a Wacom immediately and I would recommend they grind the basics to see if they want to actually invest further in time and resources and effort into actual drawing.

I'm glad we're having this discussion and all, but as a logical-minded person (and I'm sure most of you are as well) I don't tend to see art as some fancy fuckin' magical shit you "draw out of you" or "learn to tune into" or whatever other decorative language artfags use to describe their learning process.

I just want the cold hard skills required to draw well from a technical perspective. Some of us just want to draw for our jobs/vocations and don't want to create masterpieces in the fart world.

Maybe if you guys reorganize this sticky, you can put a little something for people that don't think with their vaginas??? The pepper should be casting a shadow and reflection on the pitcher. That part looks flat. The pitcher should have a cast shadow beneath it. It looks like it's floating.

Your values are too light compared to the reference. Since your subjects have reflective surfaces, you should increase the contrast to emphasize the brightness of the highlight and the darkness of the shadows. Your highlights should look like they're glowing in your drawing.

If you look at how your drawing reads from the thumbnail, it looks too light. Not enough contrast to make the objects pop more.

Other than that, the eggplant is looking great. Your rendering is nicely done. The blending is so so, there are some rough patches like on the pepper it looks very sketched out.

The issue with rendering reflectiveness is something you'll just have to play around with.

I've been trying to draw hands based on Michael Hampton's book Design and Invention, but... I just don't get the shapes that he proposes.

When I look at references to practice I can't help but see a different, less-blocky shape from which the hand should be drawn from, and I feel that the way he teaches how to draw fingers is inefficient and makes them look too shapey.

Should I stick with it and keep the practice or should I just continue with the book and learn how to draw hands from another artist later? The part where Hampton teaches hands feels really rushed compared to other parts of the body in the book.

Hampton's hand section is a shitty ripoff of Hogarth's hand lessons, so you can look to him instead to see it more clearly. The thing with hands though is that they're really difficult to draw and the nuances of them need to be super exaggerated in teachings in order for you to learn it. Then you once you know it you can apply the knowledge in a more subtle way. I like Bridgman for hands, but he also has a blocky approach. If you don't like that then maybe look at some asian artists and how they treat it, like 0033 for example (pic related).

For a exercise you can do a page or 4 with circles/ovals drawn for your shoulder.

I feel like I have negative talent when it comes to drawing. I've been on the same page of Loomis' heads and hands for a few weeks now, started drawing 3 hours a day today hoping to get 15 hours in each week. I Still can't draw a single head that looks decent, and I think I've invested about 7 hours of solid practice. I do feel like I'm thinking about things differently, but I still just don't see any improvement in my work. I have a few questions:

1) Should I be focusing on one thing at a time (heads) or work on multiple things such as figure drawing, anatomy, perspective, etc?

2) How long did it take you guys to get decent?

3) I throw out everything that I draw once I finish -- should I be saving them? I don't really have much space for stuff like that.

Yeah that's how you do it. It will look flat if you just added value. You render by wrapping around the form.

You did capture exactly how dark the eggplant is suppose to be though. You could exaggerate the highlight but it looks fine on yours.

Everything else is somewhat washed out. The difference between your reference and drawing is the strong light source is not represented well because the contrast is lacking.

i swear i've read the lesson like ten times and looked over other people's submissions and the replies they've gotten and i still have no idea what the fuck i'm doing right or wrong. i had purpose initially, i tried different things to get different results. narrower circles imply flatter surface? tighter groups of/overlapping circles implies steeper angle towards/away from viewer? or do they? i don't even know anymore

i just keep drawing potatos and dicks with circles in them praying some kind of depth will appear, but it's only getting worse. i'm in tuber hell and i don't know how to escape

Think 3D. As, a potato for example, if you have a potato that's perpendicular to you, what happens if you cut it in two right at the centre? How much of the inside can you see? What if you cut it in 3 different pieces? The sections will be different, the circles narrow or wide depending on where you cut it, and from where you're looking at it.

Basically this.

The lesson has everything you need to understand and apply the knowledge needed to rotate boxes.

A common issue with people starting Draw a Box or anything, really, is that they feel they have to go as fast as possible because it's "beginner" stuff, and that's seen as something you need to get past quickly to get to the real stuff.

Take your time with lessons, reread and redo the entire lesson if you have to. This is knowledge you'll use during your entire journey, so take your time and enjoy the ride. Put some music and practice.

they are all basically the same ellipse. do one that curves around so you get all the angles.

>> No.2917133

>>2917128

Ok, I'll try to explain but this is hard without visual representation.

There's two extremes for an ellipses: A line and a perfect circle.

Imagine an S shape pipe coming directly towards you. Alright? The end of the pipe, facing you, will be a perfect circle. The start of the pipe, while further away, will still be a perfect circle.
The parts of the S shaped pipe that are perfectly paralel to you will be straight lines, because perspective makes it so you can't see its planes.
The parts of the S shaped pipe that curve towards and away from you will be composed of ellipses, circles in perspective. Their angle depends if they're closer or away from you.

Try it out. I wish I could show you a drawing to represent this, but I'm on my phone.

>> No.2917138

>>2917128

I just thought of an easier way for you to get it.

Get a coin, and place it standing on a surface where you can't see any of the coin's head or tails. It'd only look like a straight line. Right? Now "walk" the coin towards you, turning it little by little and making it face you at the end of the "walk".

Did you notice how the face of the coin changed as you turned it towards you until it became a perfect circle? The coin was always a perfect circle, but the in-between from flat line to perfect circle is what you want to focus on. Ellipses, circles in perspective.

The degree and size of your ellipses needs to change as the forms turn. Instead of trying to draw an ellipse within the form, imagine a plane slicing through the form and try to draw the outline of the slice. At eye level (not shown here) the ellipse that cuts through the trunk of this cactus would be a straight line. As you move up the ellipses get smaller and their degrees get larger. Think about how the ellipses change as the arms bend and get father away.

-In contact with aliens
-Possess psychic-like abilities
-Control france with an iron but fair fist
-Own castles & banks globally
-Direct descendants of the ancient royal blood line
-Will bankroll the first cities on Mars (Bogdangrad will be be the first city)
-Own 99% of DNA editing research facilities on Earth
-First designer babies will in all likelihood be Bogdanoff babies
-both brothers said to have 215+ IQ, such intelligence on Earth has only existed deep in Tibetan monasteries & Area 51
-Ancient Indian scriptures tell of two angels who will descend upon Earth and will bring an era of enlightenment and unprecedented technological progress with them
-They own Nanobot R&D labs around the world
-You likely have Bogdabots inside you right now
-The Bogdanoffs are in regular communication with the Archangels Michael and Gabriel, forwarding the word of God to the Orthodox Church. Who do you think set up the meeting between the pope & the Orthodox high command (First meeting between the two organisations in over 1000 years) and arranged the Orthodox leader’s first trip to Antarctica in history literally a few days later to the Bogdanoff bunker in Wilkes land?
-They learned fluent French in under a week
-Nation states entrust their gold reserves with the twins. There’s no gold in Ft. Knox, only Ft. Bogdanoff
-The twins are about 7 decades old, from the space-time reference point of the base human currently accepted by our society
-In reality, they are timeless beings existing in all points of time and space from the big bang to the end of the universe. We don’t know their ultimate plans yet. We hope they’re benevolent beings.

So yeah, I work in a video store. Yeah these places should all be gone by now but I'm still here.

Just wanted to vent a little. Let's talk about customers that still come in.

Firs I'll talk about the blacks. Black people never have an I.d. ready when it's time to rent. They let their children scream like idiots and run around knocking every movie case they can reach off the shelves. They always bring movies back late if they do at all most smell like dank weed or CoCo butter bullshit. They apparently can't read PR listen to movie trailers either. Always asking for shit that just got into theaters.

Mexicans. I have Mexican fremds in my normal day to day life but the ones that come in the store are the worst. Most of them do not learn the language nor even seem to be trying to assimilate. They stink, like really stink. I took 4 years of Spanish so I know when the fucks are talking shit and they all do it. Their children are all fat and whine so fucking much. A lot of them seem to be perpetually drunk. I hate mexicans.

And now the whites. I'm white myself. The white people who still come in are trash, %100 trash. Can't hold a conversation about anything but football, jesus , guns or NASCAR. Actually had a white trash pair of landwhales come in earlier. One of them kept hitting their child for misbehaving. The other fat cunt asked if I thought her pants made her ass look fat. I held my tongue because I wanted to call her disgusting but she thought I was being shy.

I know i'm kind of rambling and I didn't write that out very well. Forgive me pol i'm drunk at work.

I see all you losers making fun of people who supported Hillary. Truth be told, in a fight with someone like me, you would be out cold in less than a second.

I could break your jaw and have your windpipe crushed before you even know it. Then I could throw your body into a nearby dumpster and laugh all the way back to my penthouse apartment.

Say all you want dickheads, but your Trump, kek, and faggot anime won't make you last a second in the ring with me.

Now go suck your Trump's cock and praise him for his Zionist agenda.

Now look at the Population of the United States in 1860 at 1860a-02.pdf and page xii
Now look at the Agriculture of the United States in 1860 at 1860b-08.pdf and page 247

Now there where 384,884 TOTAL Slaveholders in the US in 1860
of those 261,198 were Black or Mulatto, 155,148 were Black, 106,770 were Mulatto
So 261,884/384,884 = .68
155,148/384,884 = .40
106,770/384.884 = .277

68% of Slave Owners in 1860 in the entire USA were Black or Mulatto
40% of Slave Owners in 1860 in the entire USA were Black
28% of Slave Owners in 1860 in the entire USA were Mulatto
32% of Slave Owners in 1860 in the entire USA were WHITE

The US Civil War started in 1861...

I am OCD and I'm really scared of getting STD's.

I'm tall and physically Chad tier, went from fat and NEET to stronk and back in the competitive world. I do well, but in every roastie I see the absolute worst. The thought of getting statistically more typical STDs like HPV (the allegedly harmless types of it, I mean) scares the shit out of me.

Even roasties that appear conservative and non-slutty, I just pre-suppose that they are degenerate and never escalate. I want to have sex with every attractive girl I see, it's not a low T issue, it's OCD or autism or something. I shower compulsively and other weird ticks too. But this mental block is really destroying my life How do I get over this shit /pol/?
