people draw what they like and a lot of the time it's obvious what gender they are based on those likes, if u are looking around on art station you can tell if the big tittied dragon slayer girl is drawn by a girl/boy, and most of the time its a boy. not hard to tell

Depends on the circumstances, but in the majority of cases I think you can tell based on stylistic and thematic choices.
It's a bit annoying, because a lot of the awful, androgynous shit that women tend to draw, has started to become more common in video game art. It's like everyone is either a bulldyke or a faggot.

This is why I pretend to be a guy when I post art. Art friends call me "bro" and it's a weird feeling.

Exceptions exist of course, but for the most part women pay attention to different features than men, which they then emphasize differently.

(The same can be said of different races, by the way, if the facial recognition research is to be believed.)

Also, I do notice illustrations by woman artists can often be more... I don't know the word... curly? loose? It just LOOKS like a woman drew it, and if I check it usually turns out to be true.

It is easy to tell for paintings by young children (say, under 8yo?), and in more *conservative* communities. Lolis will mostly draw fairies and flower stuff, shotas mostly prefer godzilla monsters and machines. There are some things which I won't be able to tell, such as farm animals that are regarded as gender-neutral. Note the emphasis on conservative here, I am talking about kids with parents who will start freaking out if their son uses too many girly colors in their art.

On the flip side, for modern Japanese manga and anime by adult artists, it is easier tell if the artist is male, and much harder to identify females (because otokonoko).
