Last thread: >>2842581

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun!

Fresh off the Mayflower? Then do yourself a flavor and check out /ic/s complementary subordinate sticky here:

Profile view suits your style better imo. You should also use reference for the castle btw, even the Disney castle will do. I also think cleaner and more dynamic lines will make your work much better, so try to draw curves with as few line as possible with your elbow or shoulder if you haven't already.

Not him but I'm sick and tired of this "hurr do something different!" parroting. Perhaps it's difficult for mentally limited normalfags like you who've never felt passion for anything but there are people out there with specific goals in mind making them strive and continue practicing art. How does that personally affect whether someone exclusively enjoys drawing cars, lolis, giants or even fucking trees?

Isn't that just your personal form of projection in the end? "I don't know what the fuck I should draw so I'll draw whatever! and everyone should do as I do!". Fuck off.

Maybe they're trying to tell them to get out of their comfort zone, which I agree with, because I stuggle with it myself.
But yeah telling someone what they must stop drawing "x" and draw "y" instead is one of the most infuriating things you can tell an artist

The subject isn't the issue here. The artist in question rarely applies perspective to his drawings, which in turn makes them look very bland. This is the 50th time I've seen that side-view head angle when it's not even appropriate.

I had to up the contrast and brightness to see what she was even doing, but I think the bigger issue here is not being able to recognize a body, where are her arms and hands? Her feet? And her dress looks like it's part of the chair.

Use the lighting to your advantage, shape their silhouette with it.

>> No.2850001

>>2849980
It would probably help if the whole image was at least a bit brighter so you can see that there are actual legs coming from that wig. Also the pose of the body looks really unnatural too, it would look more normal if her back was supported by the hand. Dont take my advice for grganted though

The first thing we notice about her is the hair, and at first glance we don't know what to make of that blob of hair because you can't see her arms, her body or her legs without a second look,

I suggest cutting off part of her sleeves to create contrast, so we can see right away that she's wrapping her arms around his neck- If you show her hands, the viewer will immediately know much more about her body position. The hands are furthermore important because you're not showing her face and so she lacks all emotion in this image. You can express a lot of emotion with hands however and they can sometimes be even more expressive than the face. The same goes with her legs and feet. Show her feet so we can see right away how her legs are positioned and they too can express things like elegance or affection.

You can fix the hair issue with some sort of knot or bright tie at the back of her head to indicate how her head is positioned. Imagine him not being in the picture or looking at her - it'd be confusing as to where she's looking.

Anyway, I think this image is pretty good already. I like the rendering on the face and hair especially.

Thanks for the feedback all. I appreciate the comment about getting out of my comfort zone, I think its important to draw a variety of things. As for the perspective comment, I do agree that I'm terrible at it. Even though I do want to learn it, I don't think an illustration is automatically bland just because it lacks proper perspective. Think of stacking the shapes more. If the VP is up like that, as the trees indicate, you have to think more of how the figure would look from down on the ground. As is they're kind of flying over? The lines of your pants and in general go against the perspective hard. I would make a box in perspective and then draw a flat of the character in it if you really need to.

I tried to emulate the stylized works of various artist I like on Pinterest. Here's one example of work I like.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/493847915373882240/

Personally I tend to paint the base colour first, then I adjust the hue slider and colour triangle for different colour in light and shadow (kinda like the method shown in the pics). I also used a brush with opacity turned off and pressure sensitive flow capped at ~60% so there's that.

Hey there anon, you're looking good for a beginner, but here are few things to work on!

In your piece, the face appears to look too smushed; the eyes are too low on the head. You have the guide lines placed correctly, but next time try drawing the eyes above the line instead of below! Also, move up that nose a bit too.

Watch out for asymmetry as well! One of the ears is a bit higher than the other, as well as one of the eyes. To help with this, I suggest holding your paper up to a light source and flipping it over, so that the image becomes reversed. This will help you to catch any flaws like that!

Thanks to the anons that helped me with the face. I'm not too happy with how it turned out in the end (her ass, her feet...), but I actually don't want to work on it any longer.

Still, if you want to point out any mistakes, go for it. Any critique could be helpful for the next picture.

"Not supposed to be done for more than a minute or 2" is not an excuse for something this bad. They can be improved, a whole lot. You're stiffening them up (whether or not these are done from imagination or not). You need to identify and communicate a pose's most powerful curves in a few lines.

I'd go with a solid white outline around the things she is controlling with magic to add demension. Also work on her right knee, it looks so cubical and make me cringe, you can get away with the other knee. Raven's hair is already naturally stiff so you did a good job on that.

Other than that the face is nice very minor details to fix

I'm using Clip Studio Paint EX, canvas size is around 2000x4300, I don't usually go this big but I find it that resizing from that size helps hide small flaws, for the brushes I'm using the "watery" and "transparent" watercolor brushes for rendering and "Darker pencil" for the outline, the brush size varies.

Lastly if she is casting a spell, creating distance makes a lot of sense don't you think?

Nice clean lines though, and nice use of shadows. The stylization of the faces feels a little too different, and I think it's the cranium sizes. Left has more western, flatter hair volume vs. the more animu, heavy hair volume of the right.

Not that guy, but I agree that the depth is not very well represented. You seem like you're grasping form by itself pretty well though, so understanding how to create a greater sense of space will just give you that awesome boost. Firstly I notice the size comparison between the wolf, the human, and the trees. The Wolf is obviously large enough for a person to mount it, but in comparison, the tree closest to us looks really tiny. And, granted, it could just be a really small tree, or a VERY large wolf, but that would also mean the human riding it is also a giant. However there is nothing with in the context of the picture that implies that, so as a viewer, an outsider is forced to make a lot of assumptions about the piece, or just state that there are errors within it. The less assumptions a viewer has to make about an image, the more clear it reads. Although, I would argue that a good image knows when to give the viewer a clear answer, and when to leave the viewer asking themselves questions. Anyway, I also notice the size difference between the tree closest to us, and the tree that is farther away on the upper left side of the image. They look practically the same size. This leads me to believe one of 2 things. Either the tree is of a different species of even SMALLER trees, or that it is a perspective error. Same issue with the tiny trees on the island. Lastly, just remember variation, everything seems like it's close to the same size. Hope that helps.

Robot anon's going to leave /ic/ for a while. I think I'm okay enough in my fundamentals to make a comic now. I've started seeing flaws in a lot of the artists I used to admire as well as the people on /ic/. Thanks, I'll need all the luck I can get. I've been putting it off and using "but you're shit m8" as an excuse to practice random crap instead of being brave enough to actually do it. Looking back at when I actually did attempt some panels I notice that they're actually somewhat good(albeit with some fundies missing). I guess I realized after a while that after seeing a lot of the people who admire tell me that they got good just by doing what they love doing after they learned their fundies, I felt like I needed to do the same. There's a point where you just gotta accept that you'll have to learn some things along the way.
