When you call them kids, it shows what you consider them as in relation to yourself.

It's incredibly common to call pupils/friends boys/lads/kids, to some its a sign of endearment.

I've watched every video on his channel, and my impression was not that he was trying to convince anyone to join in particular, while also advertising that his school exists. He explicitly states on several occasions that art schools are absolutely not necessary to succeed in his industry - that's not exactly a sales pitch.

I don't yet make enough money to afford to go to his school, but if I did make enough money to pay for it (and enough to take the time off to actually attend), I am interested in going. I consider it like a boot-camp, a way to put myself under more pressure and evolve. I'm sure there's a thing or two I could learn as well, but I'm more interested in improving my work ethic - which is what I think art schools are ultimately best for.

Garbage. I burnt out a little while ago. Used to put in 45 hours a week into building my portfolio, then I just stopped on my birthday. Honestly feels terrible. But, for the months I did have the motivation, I made some damn fine strides. Maybe I'll just listen to him again and be inspired enough to pick it up.

I understand that. But listen to the guy. He literally has it all. He worked on StarWars, AAA game titles, Big-budget Movies, became an entrepreneur started up a business in China, created his own school, makes millions of dollars. He is most certainly a business man, so yea I could see it. If his school was BS, I'd be all over that selling fake dreams package. But it shows fucking results, and it's only a 1 year diploma.

He even mentions his distaste for diplomas and how in his industry it's very literally, a piece of paper. Instead of most art school's in the US that don't let you forget you NEED that BA to get in this business. Point being, whether you buy into the whole "He's tricking us into going to his school" or if he's "Genuinely a good guy", doesn't matter. HIS SCHOOL. SHOWS. RESULTS. And at a pretty cheap price I might add.

Not really. You don't get called a "kid" unless you look and/or act like one. No one's calling the 22 year-old, jacked and married marine a "kid". Back in the day, you were "kid" until you either grew a full beard or bloodied someone's nose over the matter.

The only odd thing is that I see that it's mutual, most of the time. I've heard several college students refer to "the adults," as if they fucking aren't adults.
If you're old and jaded, or just careless with your language, I can see you calling someone "kid" easily. I'll fucking call people my own age "that kid" just because the people I'm referring to are always so goddamn soft and hairless-looking. Actually seeing yourself as one when you're 22 is worrying.

The only real evidence I've seen that there's something going on is the whole Ben Marino thing, obviously Ben doesn't like Feng.

At the same time though, I find it very hard to imagine that he's some business mogul Captain Planet villain who uses the influence and power he's built in the concept art industry to pathe the way to world domination.

He's a creative guy, he's got a lot of money, he makes money to fuel more creative projects. He runs a school but he's one of many Art Center alumni to become involved in high profile art education. Somehow he's the only one being demonized

Any time you have students working 16 hours a day to get better, you're going to see improvement. I'm not impressed with his student work, to be honest. It all looks exactly the same: bug mechs and perspective drawings. Nothing indicates to me that his students are getting any particular benefit from Feng's teachings. They're just working their asses off in a competitive environment. Which may be an environment worth paying for... but not sure it means Feng is an amazing teacher.

Nope. Right on the student page. 75% of students have no prior experience. And yea, he refuses to sell his work at cons because they're just designs used in films and games. They're very non-emotional, he's simply looking at it from a design perspective and not an "art" perspective, Art is just a tool for him to get designs across.

The fuck do you think those kids are going for, arts n crafts? Industrial design is about getting quality designs out as quickly as possible. The fastest and most efficient method of getting an idea across to a director. Nothing more. So of course they're all going to look the same. They all use the same methods and practices, almost every industrial designer's pieces look alike.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if any of that was true. But to pass judgement and hate blindly like that is typical of some /ic/ posters that need to find anything negative about a successful artists and feel a bit better about themselves. See the recent Proko fiasco.
