I haven't properly drawn in god knows how long. Am I on the right track with this face? Is it at least passable or is everything wrong?

I mean more I haven't done much outside of doodling for maybe 2 minutes per bi-monthly "session", if that. So sitting down and getting some proper work done would be like sketching things out, doing the lineart, colouring and shading, etc etc.

I've been struggling a lot recently with a couple of things.
First, I don't feel my works look "finished" yet, I don't know how to explain it.

Somehow that looks "finished".

The other thing is my shading. Besides still not having full understanding of my light sources, I feel my problem is partly to the brush too.

Usually for shading I use analogue colors as explained here for shading http://imgur.com/f2Edbeu but sometimes I just end up using black to shade darker parts.

I don't want to achieve Da Vinci levels of drawing, I just want to be up there with videogame artists like Hideki Ichikawa, Kinu Nishimura, Ken Sugimori or Alex Ahax but I don't know what I lack yet (besides years of experience)

The biggest mistake I see is her left eye. Bring it up and in some.
Also, center the iris/pupil a little to direct her gaze towards the viewer.
I tried to redline, but I'm a shitty artist and probably didn't get anything right myself.

Currently just upgraded my workstation and made everything more organized. God, it's amazing what an optimized and comfortable workstation can do on your work flow

Changed the eyes and nose considerably, rendered more, changed the linework and grayscale values to multiply to get more occlussion areas instantly

I'll eat the bait and tell you this: Start with anatomy. I don't know if you're trying to achieve a chibi style or straight out want to draw cartoons because they look cool (they do), but you have to start from there. Also, don't try drawing "hard" poses like that one. If anything, you should've asked at the begginer thread.

As for your drawing, it won't look finished until you know exactly where your light source is, there are tons of tuts on google images, most of them can help you with that. Don't use black to shade darker parts, use a darker colour instead.

Most of the artists you mentioned spent years studying normal human anatomy so they could combine it with their style to create masterpieces. You don't want to achieve Da Vinci levels of drawing, but believe me, you can always try to reach that level as long as you put your mind to it.

And please, for the love of fuck, resize your pic before posting.

early WIP, experimenting different method

I want to get a hybrid actually, I hate the generic anime style everybody uses but I want to use some of its aesthetics on a more occidental style.

I'm constantly drawing real people to get grasps of anatomy and relations between limbs and also (this will sound fucking stupid) I always thought realistic drawing look kinda boring and that's why I tried my hand at cartoons with anime influences. I understand without basic anatomy knowledge you'll get nowhere tho so I'm always studying.

As for shading with black, in this particular example, in the darker parts I actually tried to get the darkest color without reaching black but I guess I used it anyway.

I don't think the nose is the problem. The eyes have depth, but in the opposite direction. They look like they're tilting down and sinking upwards into the eyebrow part of the socket. De nada, a veces sucede de que el computador muestra unos colores y en otro aparato sale otro, me ha pasado algunas veces en mi notebook (es muy frustante)

En pintura anterior se ve un poco rara el color de la cara debido a que tienes sombras y highlight calientes, cuando deberia ser sombras calientes y highlights frios.

y El otro gran tip que me ayudo mucho fue que "si tienes la estructura de tonos y Temperaturas correcta el color funciona", suena fácil pero a mi me cuesta mucho trabajo pintar y tengo que practicar más, espero haberte ayudado.

I would still flip it though. Right now the eye enters the picture on the left and starts at the head but then just wanders to the tail. Additionally the flow from bottom left to top right has a positive mood while a flow from top left to bottom right has a negative mood. I'm exactly like him, as a kid I'd always draw all sorts of dragons all the time, monsters and stuff too, so as of today it's still pretty easy for me to get some paper and a pen an draw whatever dragon for you. On the other hand same as him when it comes to humans and fundies in general I'm still pretty much a beginner and not confident at all.

Depends on the image and setting to be honest (you may have a certain angle/perspective in mind). All those things should be kept in mind at most points in the process, but I would say thumbnailing is for the general composition, so you can probably be pretty loose and gestural and not worry too much about perspective, or being perfect in general.

I'm very confused by what she's standing on. It looks like she's slipping down, but then she's also holding onto the side of the headpile? Also aren't those a part of the monster? I'de think she'd look more worried about taking on this monstrosity. I like the general design idea of the monster alot though.
