do not listen to this anon.
blind contour coordinates your eyes with your hand, after doin them for a year you should be technically able to reproduce what you see in the medium of your choice. in turn, your memory becomes stong enough to draw from it. by no means will this make you an amazing artist. amazing art is not based on technical reproductions of life, amazing art is based on fresh, innovative originality. but in order to draw anything, realism to cartoons, blind contour is your best bet....now if you want to become an true artist, we can discuss thin in another convo.

this is not true.
although SOME books are OKAY to "learn", the reality is that if you want to become a good illustrator you need to draw everyday. it is simple. dont rush and draw and accept that you will suck for a while until the work you put in to your art begins to manifest as quality.

also, op

what are these drawings you are doing? why are you doing them? do they have s point (are you trying to express yourself, if so, what are you trying to express?) or do you simply like to doodle? are these complete or incomplete?

Art professors are usually shit at art. That's why they teach instead of working professionally. Blind contours are a complete waste of fucking time. If you want to improve your proportions, simply take your time on your copies and try to get it exactly right by measuring the angles and the relationships.

Beyond proportions, other fundamentals to consider are gesture, form, anatomy, shape design, values, color, and composition.

implying many implications with no basis, this is a dead give away of where you really stand as an, ahem, artist.

i know you want to come off as a knowledgable artist for op, but your comment reeks of ignoramus (ie, you). first of all, teaching art is a professional art career, dunce. also, blind contour teaches you everything you mentioned, if your eyes and hand work in harmony with acquired patience.

>>2840828
do blind contours anon, and disregard someone that has, in other words, clearly stated is not capable of teaching art, meaning anon is clearly averse to the idea of teaching art so why take from them?

they have yet to provide any useful advice.

Art Professor,

could you please evaluate my art and let these ignorant people on /ic/ know that my art is not awful and terrible as they would like to believe?

They have repeated and repeated negative opinions about my art, thereby forcing a false opinion as the general consensus that my art is just awful and not as good as Brian's. What do you think about this, Art Professor?

>> No.2840868

>>2840862
Not the professor, but I always thought your earlier stuff had some real potential. Then you went completely off the rails for awhile and made some really unappealing stuff with no direction.

The one you just posted now actually seems like it might have potential. I still don't like it, but I think maybe you're moving back in the right direction. But that's just my two cents.

i think it is schlock, honestly. it doesnt do anything for me. it lacks depth and personality. it seems like a 99 cent store jackson pollack imitation...and who really wants to imitate his work?

>> No.2840902

>>2840862
i mean, what is the point of this piece exactly? can you explain it or do i have to waste valuable time trying to interpret it, and do i really want to?

or did you do this for the sake of doing something? does it have more meaning on an abstract and personal level where my opinion is ultimately irrelevant?

this is not technical drawing, so what can anyone really critique about this...all you leave us with is first impressions, and in this post, not a good one...

Well, I think your opinion matters too, regardless of mine or anyone else's. I tried to capture the primitive side of nudity and sexuality with this painting. Doesn't this work very well on a visual level, and stir emotions inside the viewer? What kind of art do you teach, Professor?

now, its how to approach art, and for what purpose

How to approach art and for what purpose? That doesn't sound like a real art course.. Are you an instructor at an art institution like the Art Students League or a professor at university/art school?

>> No.2840922

capture the primitive side of nudity and sexuality? can you elaborate on that? again, this does nothing for me. im sure someone likes this. besides, is this really yours?

i dont teach in an art institution, my credentials come from my portfolio. the subject i teach i created because it doesnt exist as part of the curriculum. i teach art outside of those places to people who want to learn. i am not an art historian, nor do i follow any artists or the art world scene. i am an artist, have been for over 25 years, and people ask me to teach.

>> No.2840936

>>2840919
i dont teach how to draw or paint anymore because this is pointless and there are institutions where you can become instituionalized artists. i guide my students towards being original in their work, how to create sonething worth a damn that will stand out from the standard, mediocrity of the institutionalization...at least, i try. they ask me because this is what i do.

I know I'm some kind of dumb anime weeboo but I find your style seriously repulsive and hate the whole art circlejerk you must be part of. It's like you're trying to create something as complicated as possible to pretend it has a deeper meaning than just looking like shit.
