Recently I feel as if I'm not improving at all, possibly getting worse. I'm not sure what exactly it is I should be practicing. There is so many things I know I need to work on, I have no idea where to start. So I just end up doing nothing or making useless scribbles that don't challenge my abilities.
How would any of you get yourself out of a rut like this?

The problem is that drawing takes wayy to much time before you can produce what you always wanted to do. Before that its a painful chore of doing things that are not interesting, not fun, nothing. And the constant feeling of you being limited so much that you dont want to do anything.

As it is with everything, drawing is fun only when you are skilled, only then. Unless you can be satisfied with crooked faces or bland composition (because you cant do anything more complex)

Personally I feel like a cripple due to being a beginner. I cant do literally anything "cool", everything is all about some forms or lines or whatever shit. Just awful.

But of course theres that one guy who will tell you that drawing is fun but its not fun for me. Sure, after you are behind that stage of hell, its easy to make it look less shitty. But it was shit, you know it, I know it, everyone should know that.

This. I'm a beginner and it's so hard to make myself practice. This is what I want to do with my life but this learning curve is so brutal. I just hope it will be worth it and I hope I can make it in the first place.

My adivice would be not to wory to much about the technical skill, make use of what you have and draw silly faces and senarios or whatever and along side work on fundamentals.

Why did you even start drawing in the first place? Stop worrying about improving and go back to doing that

When you find something you struggle with, you can study that. Now you have genuine incentive to improve. Not because "I wanna git gud", but because there's a tangible benefit.

I see people saying "I used to have fun drawing weeb shit, but now I'm a serious artist and do nothing but grind fundamentals" ...then they wonder why they hate themselves and have no motivation.

op)erator ... no single instruction and trick will do to keep you motivated ... it all comes down to your innate ability to stay connected to your dream and purpose, i think most dont want what they say they want, they want to simply stop the pain of worthlessness by any means possible, problem is we suck at enjoying what little there is we can, we want more. Imagine if at some point there is a chip that lets you sustain a vision of an image enough time to just put it out on paper? would it be as valuable to know how to draw then ? ... instead of loading from memory specific rules and routines that leave you blind to the way you actually perform drawing second to second ... a codification and routinizing is necessary in the proper hierarchy of information must be instilled in one self (if there is no teacher) the initial stages of learning this skill are difficult but dont forget, if you are programming your self to do this consistency in practice is key, low expectations, and a lack of arrogance... Go back and examine your life philosophy OP see if you can aor want to put in the work, stop your self deception.

find out what you have the most trouble with. that's what you should be worried about improving. it doesn't matter where you start, you just need to start.

find inspiration and force yourself out of your comfort zone. you can and should fit in things you enjoy doing, but don't get carried away. you should mostly focus on real ways you can improve what you're not happy with.

>> No.2840505

I have force but i can't find inspiration. Should a buy it or not?

>> No.2840750

Draw something every day. Before you draw, pick a technique or a specific thing you want to focus on. Even if you end up pick something relatively low priority, you'll still be improving.
