>get a message from some guy who wants a comission from you
>tells how much he likes your work and stuff
>you both talk and you ask him for references
>tell him that price depends on what exactly he wants
>get references and talk more - everything goes cool!
>SO...HOW MUCH IT WILL BE? :D - he asking
>you sit for a hour being embarassed fo yourself because you dont know what to answer

I feel like if i say my actual price, i might scare him away. And i dont want to do that because hes a nice person and his idea of a drawing really fits me.
But i also dont want to be cheap.

fucking hate this shit.
How other people dealing with this?
Do you have the same problem?

>a price list before taking commissions?
im not "taking comissions" in terms of DA/tumblr.
I just post drawings and sometimes get messages like that.

Im just a little shy and dont want to put a post where i say that i want 120$ for a full body picture.
Because on Deviantart or Tumblr people paying 5$ for a full body picture.

Its just...i mostly work with videogame companies and they are ok with paying 120$ for a concept.
But we talking about teenagers and early students in their 20-something. Im afraid they dont want to pay that much or dont have money.
I remember when i was in my early 20s. I most certainly wouldnt pay that much for a picture because i didnt had money,

So what if they don't have money? Does that make your work less valuable? If you can sell for $120, why would you want to sell for less?
It's not about them, it's about you. They're not the ones putting in the work. They're complete strangers on the internet, you don't owe them any favors.

Thank you. I guess i should try to be more of a buisenessman than a friend to those people.
(also i didnt worked with those companies for a long time already and kinda need money...so i dont want to scare that guy away because any money would be useful right now)

Some people just have a link to commission prices somewhere, even if they don't advertise it. It makes it a little less awkward to go "check out my price list" and also shows it's at least somewhat premeditated, not just you pulling a number out of your ass.

Why are you guys so bad at business. Level up your inner Jew.

There's a tactic new stores use to get new customers, it's called Grand Opening sales.

Offer cheaper options.

Lineart
sketches
bust
half-body
monotone

Or sell the guy a drawing you already did.
Do you draw random character designs, sell one as an adopt.

wanted to try this too.
But to sell something as adoptable...you have to draw sparkledogs and baby dragons...r-right?

so those $ 120' are for work that has a 2nd use like make profit with them so that's why they pay.

also. show your art. let us see what's 120 worth

Just ask them what they want so you have the general idea and then ask them what there budget is. Then decide what you can and can't do based on the budget. That way you can get them a solution no matter what. It just may not be an oil painting that took 3 weeks to create for $200. It may be a 3 hour 8 1/2 x 11 drawing.

So I got this mail asking me if I was available to work for hire for a game company trying to make a light novel game kinda like Huniepop. They seem legit and gave me a briefing about the project and all that jazz.

But now they ask me how much I charge. Problem is, I've only done commissions so far; I've never worked in this field and I don't know what to charge or what others charge or any kind of standard to give me an idea, any help?

>> No.2820271

>>2818171
If you really worked with gaming companies (meaning you are a professional) this thread wouldn't even exist. Only inexperienced beginners ask stuff like you are asking.

And to answer your question, kid, man up and tell him what your prices are. What does it matter if they won't be able to afford it? They'll still be a nice person and you'll still have money from your professional work.
FFS!

>Can you please let me know the full price for 1 complete character:
1x Character + clothes (5 variations with sprites, but Same pose)
5x Scenes with different Backgrounds & different Poses (each with multiple Variations - dressed/nude/etc...- never show a male anywhere, just penis )
Basic animations according to briefing

and what's the problem in figuring out how much this would cost? just consider it as another commission.
estimate how much time you'll need and multiply that with how much you want to make per hour.
why the fug are you asking such dumb questions? how old are you? 15?

Just explain how many hours it will take you and tell him how much you charge per hour. Please do not charge less than 10 dollars an hour, it ruins the industry and its getting paid less than some who work at McDonalds.

>> No.2822337

>>2818143
Easiest way to determine the price is making a price per hour and estimating how many hours it might take.
When you know you're hot shit, you can ask fix prices for sketches and people will eat that shit up.
Especially those fucking furries.
Around 5 Years ago some dude told me that my Art is hot shit (and I just posted random shit on a blogspot) and asked if I can make him some Furry-porn OC. Told him "Yea, sure, for a hundred bux".
Now I get alot of my Sidecash from drawing furryporn in some shitty rp forums.
Those guys have alot of cash
