Does anyone actually prefer Comic Sans all-caps as a dialogue typeface in comics? I had a discussion with a friend about why I'm using Futura(for legibility), but he believes that Comic Sans makes up a lot of the comic aesthetic.

As a font it is quite mediocre in terms of aesthetics and legibility, designed for children.
however it's its widespread use in the most incongruous places that made it do disgusting: official government, police forms, death announcements, etc
because in normieland, they see that installed on their computer and it's the first non-formal font they see, and they think it'll make their text look nicer, so they use it.
therefore, it comes across as the ultimate proof of total ignorance of form and function. it is so utterly repulsive to use it in such ways, that soon you can't see a character typeset in this demonic font without shuddering.
OTOH, some normies are so completely unable to understand any of that that even having heard why they shouldn't write official documents in comic sans, that they make a point to continue doing it.

1. symbol drawing (cartoony is fine. your face you drew shows a lack of knowledge of how a face is put together)
2. scratchy lines, try and get one continous line rather than scratching it, it helps with gesture and cleanliness a lot
3. learn how joints/muscles attach/general anatomy some more
4. misc: think about how a character would apply their weight, imagine some guy punching, what direction is he leaning/where does he anchor himself? think about how the girl sitting is applying her weight and draw it out. also figure out how the ear attaches to the head and draw out the hand, don't be afraid of it

i think you have a hard time drawing something unless it's at a very specific angle because you don't really have a lot of shapes in mind. something that i see here a lot is every face facing the same direction and i'm convinced that probably one of the few faces you're comfortable drawing. i think you still need to do more life drawings before you can intuitively draw interesting shapes.

it's the field blur filter in photshop. reduce the blur amount and just use the noise sliders underneath. i forget what settings i used though.

I've been doing stylized shit for past few years, i'm trying to get back into realism.
I know The hair is garbage and the nose is pretty damn small, and the eyes are pretty big.
I'm still pretty new when it comes to values so i haven't touched colors yet, now rip it apart so i can learn from my mistakes.

Still turning out mostly nice. Really digging the inking. Her upper lip looks a bit off center to me, too far to the left side of the picture. Also the forms of her legs and hips look to be getting a little lost in all that fabric. I know it's big and poofy but I'm sure there's a way to keep the gesture clear while still respecting that.

it's cool how you can scale up and down the details of stuff when you have an idea of what it's supposed to look like.

I'm pretty clueless when it comes time to finish something.

I wouldn't finish a silly image like this, but just as an example I imagine trying to tie down and/or refine the lines on it and I just don't even know how to go about it correctly. By the time I'm done "cleaning up" what painfully few pieces I have the likeness with the sketch is essentially lost.

Anyone have any advice on workflow or any recommended resources for this sort of thing? Ive been hiding in my comfort zone of insincere sketching long enough and I could use a little help taking the next step.

Clothes are hell to most artists because sometimes they just don't make any fucking sense at all.

the thicker the fabric the more reluctant it will be to change its form, and so it will have fewer folds and will not be flat against the object, it will wrap around the object as one big chunk and the folds will tend to be rigid rather than straight. Also, the thicker the fabric the the heavier it will be. Because of its weight, it will be pulled in a straight direction towards the ground and will not taper as much as the thin fabric. "helvetica is fantastic" is just a bunch of retarded mac fags.
the comic sans ms hate can come from everybody from typography lovers to people who care about proper aesthetic or even plain etiquette.
one subset is geeks who learned about typography from Latex/knuth and then went from there.

What constitutes an appropriate font should be judged on a case-by-case basis.

Pretty sure there's plenty of examples where comic sans is a good choice: the only real problem with it is that it has been wildely missused.

What makes Values look muddy?, I've been struggling with this since i've started to render.
People always tell me my Values look muddy but what that mean no one explained to me ever.
So i would be really happy if someone could take the time to explain it to me.

i only use about 9 different colors and they're all series 1 ($10 a tube for a big tube), and I'd say I have to buy new paints every 2-3 months or so.

If you buy cheap colors you can buy mid grade paints for cheap, and you don't have to use the highest grade canvases or brushes.

The first thing i notice are the classic hand-hiding techniques, so I see you're not at all comfortable with drawing hands. You don't have a fundamental grasp of 3d forms and that's something that you're going to have to sit down and practice if you're going to improve. Granted, I still have a lot of trouble with this myself but I'll try to redline it for you when I am at a proper computer.

When people say colours are muddy they usually mean the saturation is lower overall which results in a dull palette, and/or the hues have little variation with no clear harmony which gives a boring look.

I haven't seen muddy being used for values, but I think it may be related to gradation and tonal range. It could mean your gradients are not smooth and/or you don't use a large enough range (lack of variation).

Draw hundreds or even thousands of faces, hands, skulls, torsos and arms before you start doing complete people. Work on the combinations of neck shoulder and torso, shoulder torso and abdomen, wrist forearm and hand, elbow shoulder and upper arm, wrist forearm upper arm, etc. don't forget the lower body either
