How do you guys control your lineweight? Do you guys modify anything or just keep thickening the line where you want after?

Inking is just linear ambient occlusion.
The same as everything. You don't nescesarily paint lines but shapes. The lines should define a shape and not just trace arround an object.

In digital I typically undo continuously until I get a line I like, then thicken from there. In physical I would make a regular line and go over it multiple times to thicken.

I use Manga Studio which has an extremely useful ability of being able to draw in Vector, meaning I can draw an image then go back over it and adjust the line widths how I want later.

This. Think in shapes, not lines. Then the linework solves itself.

right on.

line is just the boundary between form and space.

that's why everything looks like it has an outline, even though there are no lines in real life.

That doesn't work that well for any style that isn't realistic and very detailed with thin lines.

You're a retard. Look up ligne claire. There are plenty of great artists who use a very linear and even ink style that does not focus on lineweight.
