Why is /ic/ triggered by artist that produce and successfully sell content of questionable quality?

Because they feel these people don't "deserve" it, when really neither financial success nor popularity are neccessarily linked to high quality.

I think it comes down to pure jealousy. Becuase these people work and work and work and work at becoming better, but they're not making nearly as much as someone who just markets themselves.

Personally, I find subpar artists who are successful inspiring. In the end if you're selling yourself it comes down to how well you can market yourself. and how well you engage potential customers who want to commission you, or buy your artwork. It just shows that anyone with the right amount of work, engagement, and luck can find success and an audience.
