Yeah, this was surprisingly bad. Honestly, Proko is very helpful for explaining how things connect anatomically. I think he's just bad at drawing from animation. His humor is cringey, but I think his free resources are helpful.

Scott Robertson's drawings of organic stuff like characters etc. are not that great. Doesn't make him any less than god-tier since he still draws incredible industrial design.

If you're trained to draw sight-size you won't have a good grasp of costructive drawing from imagination, that's pretty obvious but /ic/ keeps blending the two

I'm pretty sure that imagination can be trained / found again. I was convinced my creative mind was a barren landscape but after some mental exercise (like meditation and shit), stopping the influx of external media and reading things outside my comfort zone I've started finding some nice ideas.

He's a fine artist, so it's not like anyone will ever be able to tell the difference if he just keeps drawing from life and reference. Obviously when a fine artist tries his hands at a vastly more difficult art form such as comics, they can only fail hard.

How can you guys "feel it" if you are aways on rails? That sounds such an un-fun way to learn.

Proko was probably a student who wasn't good in the beginning and always referenced and checked his work academically rather than fixing it by drawing through it.

So Proko can fulfill the requirement of drawing correctly and, thus, makes him an excellent teacher, but not a great artist.

There was a thread about Hampton where the consensus was about the same. The figure drawing book he did is a good resource but many anons argued (understatement) if that were true because of his not-so stellar personal art output.

That's the same for pretty much most teachers. No one remembers Vilppu, Hogarth, Bammes, Norling or Bridgeman for their personal work either. And yes, I know Vilppu had a mediocre career in animation.

The only anatomy teachers I can think of who have truly stellar work are Loomis and Huston and Ironically Loomis is regarded as way worse of a teacher than Hampton and Vilppu by /ic/.
