Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email lava@lavaflake.com.

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Spiritist: less is more with brushstrokes unless you're Van Gogh. You sort of always rely on more, smaller strokes to fill in values, which isn't inherently bad, but I think you're pushing messy over stylistic with this one.

Artscrub, I'm not going to deny that I've seen heavy cast shadows on soup but between the incongruous specular map and heavy value shift between cup and soup it's weird and memeable.

Soroneir - Photoshop > Image > Auto-Contrast. Also take photos from a fair distance away to allow the lens to adjust, expecting the lens to adjust to the page size is a waste of time.

Sure it is, but generally not as a beginner.

And I don't mean never render, just don't turn every study into a 2hr+ piece. Repetition, doing quick things over and over again will bring you faster progress.

When you look at the people (I don't mean LAS specifically- just looking at sketchbooks on conceptart.org can give you a good visual as to this) who spend hours upon hours doing singular fully rendered pieces every day when they don't even know how to construct or draw simple shapes at all- you notice they spend years upon years without making much progress at all and are generally the absolute worst at drawing from imagination.

I'm not really quitting art, mind you. I won't stop after all the time that I already put into drawing.
It's just a lot of RL things came up, so I need to take a break for at least 2-3 months from LAS. (Work related)
Regardless of that, I'll still keep on drawing maybe not every day (For upcoming 2 months), but for sure at the weekends,
where I can actually put effort and time to get better. In the meantime, I could create account on thumblr and post there
weekly for people, that enjoy some loosely clothed anime girls in suggestive poses.

About the lack of progress. I think that it quite reflects the time that I put in daily. One hour per day is just not enough time
to see some real progress.Even more so when you try to do most of your drawing from imagination. I still think my anime girls drawings, look better than before. (The Ones where I actually put in some effort)

So all in one I wish you good luck, lassies. Don't forget to keep drawing with or without the LAS.

I think it's cause new weekers don't get entered into the week challenge (cause week challenges stopped existing), right?

While the people that were around before week challenges were discontinued still belong to whatever week challenge they originally joined in.

So, when a new person gets eliminated, the announcement script doesn't announce that they've lost a week challenge, cause they never were part of them in the first place, what does happen however is their Leaderboard Streak gets reset, it just never gets announced cause there's nothing in the programming to announce "X failed their streak", only shit to announce failed challenges.

And somehow maybe tokens got mixed up in there too, cause they're not getting announced either.
