Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make your mom proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (also images shouldn't come out accidentally sideways with this method)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VfDTpLLVl5bWUGWguswKpPFml533luI8-NBd1EGYHnA/edit

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

hi /beg/, i stopped making art mainly 5 months ago and started to focus on getting jobs. now i got jobs so i wanna get back to art. Art itself however, doesnt just sell.

So here´s my battle plan; pretend to be a omg lol generation cutie in order to sell a personality, and keep posting boobs and cute stuff; also blog weekly.

Would it work? I dont know what else to do and feel like i should give internet fame another chance. Like for real, working for it this time.
Any improvement or suggestion ideas will be noted down and i begin this project next weekend. It´s supposed to be character art and streaming + blog focused shit in dA + tumblr & reddit

PS. i´ve been mainly making music and album covers for last half year, not character art. It didnt generate me money.

A persona isn't necessary unless you're an asshole irl, just be nice. If you put that persona on you'll hate your fans AND yourself.

The main thing is consistency. Try not to go a day without posting. Art quality will get you there faster but you can get a fanbase easily even if you suck by finding a niche. The less people you have to compete with the better. Fan art is 75 times more popular but if your original shit is fun you'll get "real" fans for it

UMMMM HIIIII EVERYONE

so I used to love to draw as an early teenager and drew often and frequently

In the past 6 years I've drawn almost nothing at all
I want to start a daily sketch book to get back into practice.

Formerly, I liked drawing in a graphing paper notebook (so it had a small grid across the whole page), until I just started drawing on sheets of computer paper.
Would it be better for me to buy a sketch book, or is a graphing paper notebook okay? I want to get back into the swing of things and also improve, so I don't want to create any bad habits

My "goal" skill wise, is to be able to draw a manga or comic book in my recreational spare time

Scuse me if I'm wrong and that this isn't a finished piece but if it is you have a knack for drawing lightly but it is also your greatest weakness. You don't put any emphasis on deep shadows. You have a sense for proportions however from what I am looking at everything is to some degree warped. Most notably the left eye, the right shoulder, and the middle of the collar of the shirt.

Study in preparation of my very first real painting

Handpicked colors, no tools, 1 layer, hard round brush only, final destination... trying to make the experience as close as it can be on the real deal

I wonder how it'll turn out or if this was even useful at all

not entirely. If someone says "everything's fucked", that means everything is fucked. There are issues throughout and there isn't an easy spot to begin deconstructing it. One of the quickest ways's to grow is to accept when someone calls your work shit, or extremely flawed and analyse why it's like that, or why they feel like that. Once you assess your flaws you can move forward to fix those.

I'll help this time, though. I don't have the free time on my hands to redline tho so hopefully another anon can come and help you. To start with, your gesture is stiff, the pose doesn't make much sense. what is she doing? why are there chunks of meat floating around her? her pose should help explain what is happening here. Furthermore, almost everything on the body is misplaced and out of proportion.

moving forward, make sure you mentally plan out her pose and what she will be doing before early construction. Then, find a fitting reference for the pose, use it to construct the pose and move forward from there.

and try not to let comments like "its trash" trigger you

I'm going at it this way because I struggle with books but I also have a specific goal in mind so my studies are 100% related to the things I need.

Studying should be fun but also hard work so If I'm having a hard time with something I'll make it fun. for example drawing a cat with a bunch of arms coming out of it if that's what I'm studying at the moment

Yes, in the end you need to be able to freely use your arm however you want it. Just don't push your wrist into the desk or cramp up.

this might be more of a technical question than a drawing question but here goes:

I have just received a wacom intuos3 9x12, and it's acting strangely. I plug it into my win7 desktop (which before was using an intuos3 6x8 without issue) and it comes up as 'usb device not recognized'. I install the software fresh on a win8 laptop, plug the tablet in, and it works fine. Then I picked it up and balanced it on one edge, and it suddenly disconnected and the laptop started giving the same 'device not recognized' that the desktop was giving.

So it works on fresh installs until you fuck with it (maybe jitter the cord, maybe something else), and then it won't be detected correctly. But otherwise, it does work.

How can I prevent this unreliable behavior? I see nothing like it happening with the 6x8 tablet, and they appear to be identical aside from the size of the drawing space.

I like to learn things my way. I'm scared that by learning everything in the FAQ "by the books" is going to make me boring by putting my creative thought into a box where I only know how to draw "by the books". Is this a common fear? Is it the truth? I'm going to start drawing, snd I want to know if I'm either going to turn into a drone, or disregard years worth of advice from books and rot in my own self complacency.

Alright you motherfuckers, tomorrow is the day I begin my art practice. You can help me choose which resource I use first.

1.) Draw A Box
2.) New Masters Academy/Vilppu Academy
3.) Book PDF (Loomis/Bert Dodson/Burne Hogarth)

Which would you recommend?

Much better anon, keep it up. Face as a whole should slant more towards stage right; you added too much of a lump on his forehead and exaggerated the slant of his eyeliner. Ear should start a little further down, and should be thinner.
Pay attention to the transition between the beard and face - you drew it as a clear contour, but it's really a gradual transition.

First, don't give up before painting even a 10% of your subject.
Look at my image, what do you see? It's a cutout from a photo of a cloth. But you can't tell, because you're presented only with some isolated shapes. They don't represent a cloth by themselves, only colors and values. Only when you put them together with all other shapes can you see what they represent.

To desaturate colours: keep adding small amounts of blue, red, and then half the amount of yellow and then double the amount of white as you added red; this will saturate the colour to -10 per gram of red.
