The reason they're popular is because they found their niche market. They found something they're good at drawing that other people enjoy. Furries enjoy what they're drawing? It's the same reason most artist do what they do and get better at it. If you actually care about art, or anything in general, and getting better at it you learn, and take from your inspiration.

On top of that it's the matter of the niche. In most you have to have some semblance of quality to make it, but doing anime shit or just normal art requires you to put a bit more effort with how wide the amount of people doing it are.

So why are furries so hated again? Some teenage fat kids got angry that some random classmate was drawing better than they ever could. So they get online and spew hate about furies 24/7 and eventually, ( as is always the case. ) Some losers bandwagon on attacking a group of people who draw animals as walking talking animals, suddenly its a shit storm that people mock?

I'd like to take this time to confirm. I dated a girl with autism who had very little experience and yet to this day I still haven't caught up to her in skill level. I never once saw her do any kind of real anatomy studies and in all the times I asked her what she studied, she just said she copied people's work I believe that statement right there wholeheartedly. She was using some type of autism magic to absorb/duplicate the talent of an artist she looked at or studied.

I will say that she could have never really been a fine arts type artist because her specialty was in simplifying things, which makes sense considering autistic individuals tend to grasp simpler designs and attach themselves to those. But say if she really was able to push herself past a breaking point, there's no telling what she could do with her art. If she actually put forth some effort and studied some real anatomy she would have been unstoppable. Sure I may be joking a bit, but it's not a comforting thought at all as an artist who's put forth that effort and still hasn't caught up.

I'd consider something furry if it was made for the furry fandom.

Creators shouldn't limit what they want to create just because a certain group of people exist.
If I draw a sketch of an animal, lets say a puppy, and a zoophile walks up to me and tells me he finds the sketch "arousing" should I stop drawing animals. If I continue drawing animals is it automatically a show of support for zoophiles?
Disney movies, Loony Tunes and other works were obviously created to be enjoyed by anyone, just because furries like them for a specific reasons dosen't make said works furry.

Also she didn't seem too bad, we actually connected on a lot of things. It actually wasn't apparent to me that she really was autistic until she started showing signs. I still to this day think that she was more Asperger syndrome more than anything but I wasn't the one who got her put on Social Security for that very reason.
