2700989 No.2700989 [Reply] [Original]

This is... Depressing. Like, holy fucking shit... I love Alvaro Tapia's old fantasy work. His pencil work is/was gorgeous. But all his contemporary stuff is garbage. Utter TRASH. Judging from his online portfolio, all he does nowadays is ugly vector tracings of photos and high school tier edgy portraits with tumblr noses. It's not even that he does it all for work, the two bottom right abominations is his fucking PERSONAL WORK.
How can a man fall so deeply into the abyss? Is he possesed by fucking demons? It's the worst case of creative degeneracy I've ever seen a artist being guilty of. It's straight up heretic. I white girl literally can't even.

his nowadays art is just him. I guess before, he was drawing from his imagination but now he is by his feelings and self-representation, like chagall, he want to represent what he feels and not what he imagine. Is this real? The bottom ones look like something a beginner would do when learning illustration/graphics design, but who hasn't quite figured out the basics yet and is just experimenting. The blatant mistakes are the worst. They don't look like conscious choices to simplify or play with forms, but actual mistakes. The woman on the right is a prime example, as the lines are bad and don't wrap properly. It just looks poorly drawn.

2-4 are very weak compositionally and the rendering is subpar. The general style isn't very good either.

Really? I thought 5 was the most bland out of them, compositionally and content-wise. And sure, the rendering isn't great on a couple of them, but they're very eye-catching, I remember as a kid being totally drawn in by the covers alone and I think their simple, dynamic compositions are why. They shove all of the important details into one third of the illustration, on Chamber of Secrets it's all in the top third, the on Azkaban it's all on the right third, and for Goblet it's all on the left. It's kinda neat. I agree about 6 and 7, though I don't think 6 is as bad as Deathly Hollows.
