Do you ever think sometimes you're holding yourself back by drawing nothing but anime all the time?

I feel I'm holding myself back by NOT drawing anime, but I don't do it cause of that onage /ic/ meme image with the anime girls on one side and a renaissance masterpiece on the other.

I realized this today and made a vow to stop and go back to square 1. But it's hard to not want to draw anime and every time I break my vow I waste weeks sometimes a month drawing anime trash when I should be plowing the fundies.

>> No.2692224

I feel that sometimes I am drawing specifically what other artists have drawn and made them successful, or rather was popular among people, rather than feelings that I actually have. I feel embarresed and ashamed of a lot of my own emotions, my friends usually like to see my art, so I'm afraid to draw personal deep feelings. They think anime tits are cool and everything so that's all find and good but I'm holding myself back from drawing things about shit like how I feel about failing people, or my sexuality

>> No.2692229

>>2692195
Yes, you are holding yourself back. Leave the house for once and draw more stuff outside, go interact with other artists, view and study more art in museums and galleries. Besides subject matter, experiment with other materials and processes. It's the only way you're going to grow and not be a complete weeaboo for the rest of your life. You idiot.

>> No.2692231

I'm the opposite. I'm holding myself back by compulsively doing photostudies, not trying to stylize and be more imaginative.

Well considering a good chunk of /ic/ just wants to draw anime so they can make their own porn then I think most people really don't think that way.

dont listen to this person. Going outside works only for artist who want to get money by drawing landscapes and portraits.
Obviously these people more interested by entertainment industry - cartoons/games.

There is literally no other answer than "not drawing anime".
If you not gonna go to japan and work as a slave under some mangaka or doing some niche webcomics about girls, then there is no point to focus on anime.

Of course you can be an artist who dont actually wants to be an artist, but wants to have a REAL JOBXD so he can draw anime sometimes and work at non-artist career.

I do think drawing just one style will hold any artist back. Anime is one of the worse because it encourages a lot of proportional issues later (such as too big eyes, too thin or long necks, wrong headshapes, etc)

i can only think of the webgen memekid bahi jd, or that frog fucker who does background art for satelight.
and that last one doesnt count since its not actually animation

>> No.2693569

to be honest, i learned to draw from drawing anime at a young age but drawing realistically and doing studies is hard for me because i always stylize it. its totally my fault though for being a lazy asshole and quit drawing for a year.

definitely not gonna make it :(
