Something's broken, what do I do?

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

I'm trying to use what I learned from anatomy and gesture studies by drawing different poses but I always use the same two. How do I fix this just imagine a person doing something at different angles?

It's been getting a bit smaller but we still have a decent amount of people submitting every day. These threads are mostly shitposting but if you ask for a crit people are usually helpful.

That was done by NAF and I'd say he's one of the better artists on LAS. But the skill level ranges from absolute beginner to intermediate I think.

For studying anatomy, try rotating the figure in space. Maybe try animating a full turn around. For poses, I think you should do a shit ton of gestures from ref/life, that made it really easy for me to come up with new poses from imagination.

You can just rejoin, all that happens is that you're eliminated from the week you joined. I.E. if someone joined in the first week and got eliminated in the 30th week they would have to rejoin week 30 and would no longer be week one.

well we're pretty far along into las at this point. Would you guys say you're happy with the progress you've made? What would you do differently?

I'm kinda disappointed with my progress. I've definitely improved, just not as much as I wanted too. I started off doing that one year guide thing that milo is doing but I was stupid and decided to skip through the perspective stuff. (Which lead me to waste the first couple months on Scott robertsons book cause I couldn't understand it) wish I stuck with it now. Props to milo for sticking with it, you're making nice progress.

Oh and something I've learned that's super simple is just to draw whatever I'm studying. Before I started I would read through entire chapters of books without drawing anything because I thought I "retained" all the info. Now I spend lots of time studying every little thing from every chapter and just drawing stuff over and over again.

gottagitgud I notice you tend to draw the back of the cranium too small and it makes your heads look disproportional, I actually did the same thing a lot my first time going through hampton. Youre doing good though keep it up! Try and review your drawings a day later or so with fresh eyes to try and observe where your proportions are off and keep it in mind for future drawings

I'm trying to publish it atm but battling with the server config, which is odd since I set it up locally just fine. Apache a shit. The project has weird routing because it's essentially 2 systems under one domain, a front-end and an API.

Right now it's missing the courses/rites I had planned, which are pretty much permanent challenges with multiple submissions / parts to submit towards, like drawabox courses or a challenge to build your own world with enviornments, characters, creatures, whatever. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. It's gonna take a while to make all the different ones as well even after the functionality is in place. Also more badges, right now it's just a few. There's a couple of quirks here and there, like not being able to edit your crit replies but whatever I can always iron that stuff out later. The design's pretty simple but I guess that's fine.

I'll holler when I get it up. I'm not sure if it should be put up for a week or 2 and then wiped clean or just go from the start. A grace period to see everything works and then clean-slate everyone I think is best.

Yeah I opted to tie crits to users instead of single submissions. People will have to specify it if they're looking for feedback on only a specific submission. In the future I'm thinking of letting you pick a set of submissions to tie into the critique. For now you'd just write it. This way it allows for the kind of overall progress feedback we've had in the threads or a more general response for what you should focus on, etc.

Yeah I know, there's nothing stopping you from deleting your submissions. So you could in theory submit every day and delete it afterwards and build streak forever like that, but I could always end someone's streak if they do that. The reason I've allowed it is I don't want your streak to die if you delete an older submission. I think it's fine. If people want to cheat they can, but I don't see why you would. Also worth noting 'deleting' doesn't delete anything. I still have the image and the submission is in the database marked as deleted.

algen, like most of us, had been drawing his whole life. Those 2 years were just when he started taking it seriously. Do you really think Lava, someone who just started drawing like a year ago, could get that much progress in a year? It's not possible at all, the base that algen started with is just way above what Lava started with since he hasn't been drawing or doodling random things his whole life. I think it's fair to say that it'll probably take Lava a bit more time to git gud then someone who had an interest in drawing since they were young.

And I don't mean this to be discouraging, you and Lava could probably improve real fast and you can definitely git gud if you don't stop drawing. I'm just tired of people posting Algen's progress or even someone else like Sinix' progress and calling it 2-3 years of progress when that's not the case since they've already built some sort of base. Also I kinda view them as outliers, not everyone improves as fast as someone like algen so you're only gonna discourage yourself if you keep setting unrealistic goals for yourself.

Check the las.tools site to see when streams are active. There are usually ones that run from around 10pm PST to 5am PST, then the morning streamers at 8am PST, then random odds and ends throughout the day.

Challenges are single submissions like current las. The multi-submission challenges are going to be 'rites' and act as permanently available challenges you work towards completing over several days.

Passwords are hashed and salted with bcrypt.
Stream box is Picarto only. Twitch has an API as well I could use, I'll add support for it later.

Password/username is only used on logins and registers. After you've logged in the server gives you a jwt token which gets stored in your browser's localstorage to authenticate with.

The creator of LAS 1.0, LavaFlake, has gone AWOL for the past few months, and hasn't continued development on the website since, because of this a lot of anons got worried, and eventually LAS 2.0 ( http://las.doom.moe created by w / dotesq ) came into existence to develop past where LAS 1.0 left off, LAS 2.0 is still in beta and just recently came up so it'll be subject to rapid changes, data wipes, instability and all the usual shit new websites get when they just start.

If you're new, just submit to LAS 1.0, and make an account on LAS 2.0 (you don't have to submit there yet because submissions will probably be wiped)

I always used to think rendering was cutting out 2d images from their backgrounds, like when I was younger I would find anime pictures, waste ages in photoshop pentooling around the figure in the picture, select it to separate the figure from the background, then upload the cut out figure onto websites like PlanetRender (which I don't think exists anymore)

I doubt it'll have much of an affect on LAS. There's maybe 40 people registered with around 15 whose been submitting these last few days. Currently LAS has around 100 actives, and I doubt many will leave in favor of the new site. People are more or less fine with the way things are I think. Maybe people are holding out till the submissions are sticking (monday), but idk, I guess we'll see.

Uploading didn't work for 4 hours so I couldn't get a submission in after constantly refreshing. Doesn't mean much since I draw a lot nowadays thanks to LAS so I'll hopefully use this to draw more and get better.
