I would suggest bringing the head claws apparatus lower to her back to give her a more balanced silhouette and make the head pop out, and maybe make the eyes rounded like a plague doctor's mask instead of the angry appearance, also watch out for those hard edges at the base/cast shadow, right now it looks sharper than any other point in the picture, and that should be around the head, other than that i think it looks cool

Been working on this, redid quite a lot. Im quite happy how it's turning out, as long as I stay motivated on learning things.

Next step is erasing those hills, that now look way too big. I'll try turning those into stratocumulus like on the background. Can't wait to start adjusting saturations towards point of interest.

Bad photo, bad light. I'll try again tomorrow.

A is good to show the message of what a "dark angel" should be, Angel Wings showing the obv. while being accessorized with a slut outfit to show that it's on a morally degenerate side.

One the closing thigh, try adding 3d planes on the leg to differentiate the (more specipically, inner-)thigh and gluteus (ass) as the inner-thighs protrudes inwards (on the side of vagina).
Pro-tip: git >>>/fit/

You know how lighting works, one side of the wing isn't supposed to be similar shades to the one brightened, also add a shadow the the thigh of the one leg opening.

Nit-Picking: Hands look inconsistent.

My advice is to not get too caught up in this. Some people like Rockwell went their whole lives feeling like shit about themselves and their art. If you need therapy then do that, but you need to change your thinking process or else you will be stuck in the "I'm not good enough" mode your entire life.

you don't need a thousand layers to make a painting, just a couple works fine! i do agree with the "global painting" thing. if you have a computer that lags after a couple of layers, maybe its time to invest in something a little newer. most stock comps nowadays can handle quite a bit and they are cheap!

It's probably because I'm influenced by digital painting since you see it almost all the time now. Before that, I did like traditional for comics and such, but school made traditional art feel like fine art and that turned me off. Of course, you can do anything with traditional art, but back then, I didn't think that, so digital art was really refreshing. In these times, digital is just more accessible and has allowed a ton of people to share their work that they wouldn't have been able to otherwise. It's on a computer which everyone has and typically used a lot, at least for me, so the transition only made sense.

I think the right, looks more natural. The left looks like her wrist is twisted too much, but even so i think the hand on the right is better. Also cross her eyes ever so slightly more, looks like she's looking off into nothing. I know you've probably thought a lot about where her eyes are looking and you think it's technically right, but that's probably because you've been staring at this picture for too long. Her eyes immediately threw me off and killed the entire image.

Now as for the rest of it. Don't take this too negatively because it's not bad (it could just be better) but the way you've colored/shaded this has a certain amateurish quality. Like you have an eye for how to render, how to paint things properly but you're using that knowledge incorrectly. The lighting is definitely the most jarring thing apart from her expressionless face (even just a little smirk would suffice). The blues in the background and the bluish highlights on the spooky horse totally contradict the lighting on the girl which personally I think is too soft as well. I don't know what you'd do to fix any of this save for repainting the background to match the lighting but as it is it feels like you don't reeeally know what you're doing.

You can leave it, I think the picture is fine but just be sure to consider this in your next picture.

There are so many problems to point out that could be summed up by just practicing your fundies and color etc. This isn't bad for your skill level... like it's clear you're not getting too far ahead of yourself so that you're falling on your face.

one thing I will point out though, is that those plants, which I'm assuming are some sort of wheat-like grass, do not look like they're close to the camera and thus blurry. To sell the illusion you have to show that they're in front of the character, paint a few of them in front of his legs and off to the left more also show them getting smaller and smaller as they get farther away and thus lower on the canvas. That'll be a really simple way to greatly improve this picture.

Otherwise like I said just keep practicing.

Well, I kind of agree with: >>2648730 She has to have a bit of decadence to her. Plus, Angels have often been depicted with little clothes, or just in the plain nude. I get what you mean mostly, but there should be a SLIGHT degree of depravity in her design, being a dark angel. Not full slut like a succubus, but still just a little, even if unintentional.

>>2648730
Yeah, I've just mostly laid down some base shapes and colors. I plan on fully rendering it like those "realistic Pokemon" paintings you see. So all your feedback is very much appreciated.

It looks really nice, though i don't know if it is because of your monitor settings but the image is looking really dark, here is how it looks with a quick adjustment layer, also the shape between the pillars on the left looks a bit awkward being pushed by the edge of the image. And to play with proportions the general idea is to push them all accrodingly across all the anatomy, not just individual parts (longer arms means longer neck, longer torso, longer legs, etc.) so they don't look disproportionate with the rest of the body

too many unecessary wrapping lines and some of them are wrong even... re read the hampton section he doesnt always use the exact same stick figure and often doesnt even draw the feet as they are often a detriment to the figure. if it helps just draw a strait line representing the position and weight of the foot. Arms are also too noodly like you cant commit to anything... overall I think you can fix these things by just doing lots and lots of 30 second gestures to force yourself to think less.

ive done SO many longer drawings with lines that strictly follow form. there are drawings IN THIS VERY THREAD that do exactly that. also don't say "normies"

but i DO want to just sit around doing portraits.

as far as wonky proportions you've got to remember what exactly im practicing. everything I do lassos in the measurements and proportions tighter and more accurate. I want to learn to draw what I'm seeing before I start drawing what I think I see, and I'm just starting to do the latter.

it's a pretty silly assumption by people on here that people have to study anatomy to understand it. All you have to do to understand human anatomy is be a human. But drawing anatomy is the hard part. My anatomy knowledge is what is starting to fill in the blanks of proportion I've been missing, and I'm just learning to trust it more. Trust for instance that I know what a hand looks like, and I can use that knowledge as I draw them as a safety net when I look away from what I'm drawing and look down at my paper.

here's a hand i drew today. pretty good right?

your problem is obviously the face and hands, there's no other way to say this, it's shit. drop the full anime stuff and go for semi realistic stuff with anime mixed in if it's your preference. no memes here, use loomis or try to find your own style by usnig basic head proportions.
