I finally got my start working with vectors a few weeks ago but haven't had time to work on a fully rendered, shaded, background piece yet. I personally think it came out well, but I'm still new to the program.
I used Live Paint to shade the character and clipping masks for the background.

Seriously. Ditch the style and focus on things you can easily study; fruit, simple objects, etc. You can always go back to your horrendous style later, learning requires a better base than a wannabe Cartoon Network faggot.

Thank you, that was almost concrete advice. Specifically what is wrong with it other than muh cartoon netwurks?

Not him, but your style is based on someone else's style (kinda cartoon network, kinda animu, kinda tumblr..). It's like telling a story you heard from someone vs. telling a story you've seen with your own eyes - only one is solid and believable.
So yeah, study realism that connects all the art styles, study the world the way it is and find your own interpretation, know the rules to break them instead of floating around and guessing what looks right. Cheers.
