Waist is ridiculously thin (a third of the width of the hips, lol), and the shoulders are shaded as if they were a simple box (instead of having actual muscles). The rest of the shading is surprisingly okay as far as my untrained eye can see.

If you wanna have fun with a full render go for it, but I'd say it's gonna look weird until you learn how to tack on some more solid anatomy, practice gesture a bit more, and also figure out how to draw facial expressions on imagined drawings (yours is essentially blank, but getting this right is a whole thing to study in itself).

Ended up looking a lot more stiff than I imagined. The colors and the rendering is pretty good considering the realistic approach you took, but overall it seems perhaps too overrendered.

Contrast in the level of detail is a powerful way to help draw focus to one or two focal points. In this, the level of detail is really high in some parts while appropriately low in others. It's really weird and makes for focal points at all the wrong places (in particular, the building on the left side of the composition). The focus is obviously intended to be on the kiln, but there are too many things battling for that attention.

I think I saw you working on that study yesterday. The final result looks great! Colors are spot on (including some nice subtleties), forms are good, and you did solve the problem with the missing half of the face.

One area where you should work on next is the abstraction of details. Some bits are just too detailed when they have no need to be: the collar of the shirt, for example, is composed of many shaky lines in your study, when it could be abstracted to a much nicer curve or 2-3 simpler lines+curves). Another area where this is obvious is the hair: it doesn't receive much definition in shadows, which is good, but the light part has a similar level of detail all over and all the strands are the same size. You should try to perceive your volumes and changes of lights with simple forms then sparingly build detail onto them (the terminator with that nice reddish saturation could be made into a box, for example).

This part here looks like a prime spot for some detailing. It's already being outlined by ambient light (could add more), and you can use bounce light coming from the ground right under it to define its form.

These are neat, I've been working on basic hand construction myself.

One advice I' give is to make sure your knuckles and nails are properly aligned because they define the form to the tubes/boxes of fingers. In your top left hand the index is rotated a good 35 degrees because you didn't align your knuckles/nail parallel to the top of the hand.

Bottom left hand also has the same problem a little bit, but most noticeably the bends between finger segments are wayyy too exaggerated, making your middle finger look broken.

Dig the cross-hatch.

Keep doing your studies too. There's nothing wrong with drawing "fun" stuff (you can actually learn doing that too plus it keeps you motivated), but pay attention to what sort of activities make you learn and what sort provide you with no progress.

(I'm not saying concept art is bad for practice, I'm saying going for a specific kind of painting might not be as efficient as studying fundamentals hardcore).

If you wanna draw anime, start doing a bunch of naked realistic studies anyway. Read the sticky, pick a book, and get to work.

What you drew is a two-dimensional frontal diagram. While it can display some proportions, it is not the key to drawing. To draw good, you will have to position imagined volumes in 3d space while understanding human anatomy and most of its details. This means drawing your subjects in dynamic poses. This means picturing the body structure of your subject before adding clothes. This means learning realistic proportions, anatomy, and gesture before stylizing them (which is what anime is).

The good news is that it takes less time to draw anime than it does to draw like michelangelo, so if you apply yourself and have good learning habits you can draw passable stylized drawings with a few months of practice.

If you had a shred of grey matter to think with you would know that "too" implies multiplicity. Shading on the deltoid is a bit awkward, I'd say it shouldn't be hard edged.

The outlines around the arm/neck holes of the shirt. Since the cast shadow on the shoulder indicates that this fabric is loose, I don't think the self-shadow on it would be very visible. These outlines should be thinner and lighter, and there shouldn't be one on the left arm hole at all from that viewing angle.

I like that the right shoe has subtler values, but I'd add some angles on it as it's all curves right now.

Don't know much about traditional but aside from the few weirdnesses I mentioned I really dig your rendering style.

Digital should be easy to pick up if you know traditional. The only thing that changes is rendering techniques, but all the other knowledge you already have won't magically disappear. Give it a try and see if you can get used to it after a month or two.

Fucking look at it, and ask yourself why its better than your shit.

Study that shit, then imitate it by all means (if the face still ends up looking like cancer after 20 attempts just fucking trace it) and use the fundamentals to fill in the gaps. Not the same anon but tracing right now isn't a bad thing. Your fundamentals aren't good enough for you to draw well from imagination. You clearly don't have any understanding of how a face is constructed and WHY, or any understanding of anatomy. Looking at other art is really useful because if you put yours side by side to "top tier", you'll see where you fucked up. Overall if you want to get better, you need to understand why your art isn't good.
For starters:
Line quality needs improvement: too much scratching. And for the love of god stop going over a line multiple times.
Shading: There is no light source. You are generically shading how you think it should look rather than how faces actually form.
Proportion: This doesn't look like a person. Looks like a canine that went on a 3 year motorcycle ride. Stop using symbolized facial features and look at a real person. And I mean REALLY look at them.

I'm not really sure about that monster's design, but I think I'm done.

>> No.2645734

>>2645608
Maybe I should have listed it as fantasy when I first posted, that character isn't suppose to come off looking human, more of a bridge between man and monster. I thought someone would pick up on that fact. And obviously his hair is just some wacky fantasy style as well.
Cause even those eyebrows and cheeks are surely not how humans look. Plus he has cat or owl eyes rather than human's. The original design was suppose to make him look semi featureless, pale, and demonic. And he looks more like a dog then I might add that to his character background now.
But mixing realism and fantasy facial features was hard and I guess that's what threw everyone off guess I'm sorry about that, other than it being utter crap. Probably wasn't a good idea posting this one.
I'll start studying what you told me to do, especially my lines even tho that will be a hard thing to break.

>> No.2645750

>>2645734

The secret to having people pick up on intentional things is to have your fundamentals nailed down. With proper construction and values it would be clear to see that it's a man/monster because it could be nothing else. Do you see what I'm saying? Your flaws leave too much room for interpretation. Another example is when people draw a face or body poorly and someone crits a certain part and the artist gets defensive with a response like "wow do you even know what you are talking about? That was on purpose, people really do have legs this long/weird noses/big ears etc etc. That is all very true but there's no way to tell if you are purposely accounting for human variation or not if everything else looks like shit.

Not sure what else you expected from 4chan.
Being interested in art means you need to be open to all crits, even if it's something you don't like. Try not to defend your work so much and instead just recognize what others see in your work and how it comes across. That's your basis for where you need to start improving and build it off from there.

While you're still here anon, learn how to control a pencil while you're still in the early stages, I'm learning too late and it's setting me back. Try sketching and shading with the overhand grip shown in the video and challenge yourself by not allowing your hand to rest on the paper/table while using tripod grip. I think both of these things will improve your messy lines and shading. Also try some gesture drawing:

You over reacted to some harsh criticism.

>Go to beginner thread
It's for beginners, practicing anatomy/funamentals. You can figure this out for yourself.

>copying "work"

You don't understand. Look at an artist you admire and try to figure out how they do what they do. You don't have to copy their subject matter or lighting etc, but study art like you would study a book for a research paper.

Copying is a good habit to form when you don't have any fundamental knowlege whatsoever as>>2645608 said. you simply have no good understanding of any aspect you tried to draw in your picture. You can't get knowlege out of thin air, you have to look to sources of information and aside from "how to" books, fellow artists are your best bet.

And here's a pro tip, don't flip out when someone says what you don't want to hear. It's hard, but also keep in mind that words on the internet sound harsher than they are. Take the criticism, ignore the negativity (especially when you're imagining it)
