FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email lava@lavaflake.com.

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Couple more things:
It spends too much time coming on screen. The ball you're drawing is bouncing across a screen, not from the air. By the time it enters the screen, whatever propelled it would be long gone and the ball should be nearing max speed.

After that first bounce it kind of looks like it's shooting into the air because the path is too straight. The path of motion should be more arced. Right now it's kind of like a zigzag.

Keep it up. When you're starting out it takes a lot of trial and error for things to turn out right.

Let's assume I took a "nig nog" word, namely nig nog itself, to describe another or multiple nig nog words. Is that an uncommon thing to do? I didn't know the animation threads have toxic ranting sometimes too but it doesn't surprise me at all. There's something about artists that makes them rage when people use things they disagree with or don't have themselves I guess. People compare /ic/ to fit a lot but I don't think lifters tear the shit out of someone if they post a pic of them using a different brand of weights or something.

Kind of wish we were closer to fit in general though, helping and mirin' each other instead of shouting at noobs who need more fundamentals and just ignoring people who seem to know what they're doing.

If I create a site where everyone can sperg and rank LASers - how would you want it to function?
Some thoughts:

1. There's 10 levels, you drag users to the rank you think they belong in, and they are placed in the average of everybody's votes. (5 people place person A in levels 1,2,3,3 and 3, average level = 2.4 = put into level 2). You would see your own ranking tree and the total opinion next to it. This is the way I like the most.

2. Option 1 with fewer levels.

3. Option 1/2 with the most voted level as their total opinion instead of average. (5 people vote person A into level 1, 10 people vote him into level 5 = his total level will be 5 as it has the most votes).

4. Everyone votes on the entrants once, can either vote them up or down, the person with most votes is ranked highest. (No tiers/levels system).

5. Option 4 with groupings, levels 1-10, based on thresholds for amount of votes they've gotten. (Person A is in level 1, has 4 votes, someone upvotes him to 5, he gets pushed to level 2 which is in this example 5-10 points).

6. Option 4/5 (either works) where everyone has multiple votes for every entrant, so you can vote someone up 5 times or just 1 if you don't think they deserve more than that.

Other ways to do this?

Additionally: Should only active LASers be part of the ranking or the fallen be included as well - I'm thinking all should be included atm. Maybe ignore people with few submissions, say 10 or less.

there's no need to complicate things. The best way to implement this is to let every rang others SUBMISSIONS. Meaning, lets say you have 10 rankings, and you can put each daily submission in one of those rankings.

I think that would be more fun, cause one day you can give a good person a 5, but also you can give a beginner a 6 maybe if he put effort in his submission. It's much better than bunch of plebs ranking your skill level.

I didn't think this part through, but the rankings could be summed up maybe like exp. points, or you can even change your profile page to put your best ranked submission on top of the list.

I dunno, that kind of stat wouldn't fit well on the leaderboard since it's a number that only ever gets larger while the other stats can increase/decrease. The current ones lined up for the leaderboard are the streak, topic streak and a "participation" stat which can either reset or decrease with inactivity

I feel like this system would be even more punishing than the old one because if I joined on day 200 in the time it takes me to earn 3 points a day 1er would have earned 401 in the same amount of time. I've been struggling these last couple days with how to work in a critique system that doesn't suck. The original plan was to have people earn the ability to request a critique then people could go post critiques and then people would vote on whether or not they were helpful and then the original requester would receive the approved ones.

I still think it's an alright idea but an anon pointed out that it pushes a lot on to the community to have to review every critique and that puts too much on you guys. The only other idea I have is this kind of crowd sourced critique system but it has the same problem as the previous one where people would have to read every critique and vote.

I'm sure someone's reading this thinking "just add a fucking text box and let us type shit" but I'd love to figure out some way to ensure quality critiques get through while not burdening the community with the workload.

It's not just speculation. As soon as I added reports people went through and used them to shit on people's submissions. I had to ban a couple users from the report system and there are still problem users who attack the artist/submission instead of explaining why they're reporting.

People will use it as a way to comment or just say fuck you and I'd like to try to mitigate that. I don't think it's a big deal to delay it because badges and leaderboards are next on the list and people have been looking forward to that since forever

What would you guys think of LAS tutorials? Lasses making tuts or progress gifs or little mini walkthroughs or something of the things they're comfortable with and other people would like to learn.

E.g. Naf doing everything with lines, Poon's flowy gestures, JMGN's gaping anuses, Anon313's lighting etc. Could make it as a challenge and see who enters, I think most people here have something to teach.

That new meme list of people stagnating has a bunch of lasses who just focus on one particular area, I don't think that counts as stagnating so much as being perhaps too targeted. We can't all be renaissance men though and even then it's always better to master one thing first and then move onto the others rather than edge up the overall levels slowly like some kind of balanced skill points scrub.
