he isnt wrong, what you are saying is completely wrong. not sure where you learned abotu concept art, but what OP posted could very well be the start of a character. going into a design, you dont always have one set design you want to go for at the start. therefore, doing various character iterations is the fastest way to minimize what you want to push and what isnt working for your design. you shouldnt start fights on the internet, you look just as immature as that guy does.

Don't take what I say the wrong way, they are amazing artists, there are just many other people who do the same job better than them.

From what I've experienced, concept art is fast iterations to a piece finished enough for production use. It's not the cleanest but it gives a solid three-read pass, enough for a client to give the OK for the pipeline to move forward. I've worked with illustrations who referred to themselves concept artists that would spend 40+ hours per piece painting. Some people just won't get it no matter how skilled they are in what they do. That or they're trying to extend their skills to other fields.

It's not black and white. My friend does concept art for a AAA studio, he basically gets told to polish some of his concept work to a higher finish for promotional purposes, but it's still concept art.
