I have literally been turned away from a portfolio review because the reviewer didn't think I drew what I was showing him. In his own words when I came back the next year he admitted it's because I'm female. A good percentage of times I've gone to portfolio reviews I've been asked "did you really draw this?" as they look me up and down. I haven't let that shit stop me but it does happen.

I think at least a part of it is due to the same reason there aren't as many successful women in art these days. Men and woman are a bit different in that the majority of women are of average talent, average intellitgence with very few being either super dumb and worthless and very few being very talented and smart.

Now with men the average is much more spread out, there are many super dumb men, many average men, and many very smart and very talented men.

Fuck, I actually have something to contribute to this thread but I don't have the book I need to reference at hand.
But basically, being an art student in the past was pure hell. Todays 'starving artists' live in luxury by comparison.
There were some art clubs where students and artists gathered once a week and were served a meal. For many of them this was the only hot meal they had in a week.
Not to mention the competition was brutal, few people made it. They didn't want women to expose themselves to this, not only because they didn't want more competition, but they simply wanted to shelter women from the miserable existence of the struggling artist.
There still were and are plenty of female artists though, but I believe women have had plenty of other ways to be creative, such as weaving, sewing and various crafts.
Art doesn't have to be confined to sculpting and oil painting, but maybe we should ask ourselves why we hold certain art forms in higher regard.

I didn't really pay much attention to it but I know there was one dame who had it rough because she wanted to paint what the big boys painted. (she did gain recognition in the end I think).

While it does hold true that women are sometimes in a disendvantage (maternity leave bullshit) that's not really the case in the art industry.
If a studio is faced with 2 equally skilled artists they often chose the woman to bring some balance what is often a male-based team.
(and if gender balance is not an issue they simply look at experience and later on maybe their schools if they are still equal). But that shit rarely happens, it mostly comes down to who has the better skills for the project in question.

It turns out the problem isn't blacks but certain people shoving their noses in black business.

I'm in pretty good Animation drawing course, no bullshit modern art painting or whatever, everyone gets graded and recognition ONLY through good work. Mostly drawing

My class has about 20 people in it, but only 5 of them are male, the rest are female.

The best students in the class by far are 4 of the 5 men and 1 girl. My female teachers talk about this and say that men are more determined, harder workers and just have the proper thinking mind in order to understand the nature of drawing over women.

Its not sexist but reality, there are very hard working girls in my class but they never come close to these few guys who spend all of their time on their work. Does it mean that girls can ber great artists? No. Does it mean on average that there are more exceptional men artist than women? Yes.

I believe personally that men are more obsessive, more ambitious, more determined and less emotional than women. That is why they excel at certain jobs (like drawing, politics, business).
