What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. Jesus, Rozzle, photobucket? Anyway, you're quite skilled so I can't offer much critique. That said: I know you know you're comfort zoning, but maybe hearing it from someone else will encourage you to break out of your shell. Your figures are good, time to focus on something else. Try some environments for your characters, or large objects to interact with-- cars, mounts, furniture, etc. As far as the work you have, I notice you draw most of your faces at 3/4 views and sometimes the forward eye drifts toward the visible ear, so watch out for that. Also noticed your colored work lacks highlights. Not sure if that's a stylistic choice, but try dropping a couple in at the end and see how you like it. I really do like your work though. Looking forward to more good things from you.

I admire the effort you put into your work, but to be blunt: you're a turd polisher. Take a break and do more quick sketches for the sake of learning concepts like anatomy, especially where parts connect: jawline to neck, shoulder to torso, armpits, knees, etc. Zoom out and look at the proportions of your figures. Sometimes you might even need to step away from your work for a few minutes then look at it with fresh eyes. You tend to draw shoulders too narrow, eyes too large, short foreheads, and jawlines that are too pointy. Be sure to study from reference while keeping proportions in mind, then compare real life proportions to your imagined work. That might be a lot to digest but take it one step at a time. And your creature work is cool, could be elevated with some improved texture work.

Get yourself a sketchbook, Amigo. I read in the last thread you're on tough times so for now the doodles are fine. Try finishing a figure once in a while to push yourself. Your life drawings are on the right track, but the imagined work is pretty weak. Fanart and imagined drawings are a good way to test what you're learning in your studies, so don't just drop everything you've learned when you're doodling. I noticed you started anatomy studies a while back but gave up after arms-- probably because you were drawing every detail of the muscles and got burnt out. Don't do details, start with the basic shapes. It's also a hell of a lot easier to remember as a beginner. And Google Michael hamptons pdf. He's good about breaking down muscle groups. That's a start anyway. When in doubt, consult the sticky.

Topic system is fixed. I've had it go back and retroactively apply the cooldown to every topic that's been used. It turns out that out of the 146 topics there are 41 that haven't shown up yet.

To the people in the thread complaining about critique and literally falling to the level of "post your work" tier replies: Does identity or skill really give the critique the merit? Is it not what the person is actually saying relevant? Do you really think that if someone is not able to produce something of the same level, they somehow are not allowed to give any input? I think the biggest problem is the opposition to what we believe seems to think that criticism only comes in one form: someone telling you exactly what is wrong and how to fix it. It's either that or they believe that the only valid opinion is from someone that's better than they are.

I agree with the main idea in this that the fastest way to improve is a tight loop of experimenting on your own and getting advice from a pro. However, the slowest way to improve is to work in isolation, reinventing every wheel and missing your own blind spots. Many if not most of us are bootstrapping our own ability, and we don't have ready access to a professional or an art school. Exchanging ideas among peers is by no means a complete substitute for having a mentor or teacher, but it is vastly superior to the crab mentality of every man for himself.

A key aspect of learning on your own is critical thinking and analysis. If you can't filter out the wheat from the chaff in the comments you receive here, your hopes of sufficiently dissecting your study process and improving your work on your own are very dim. One sign that you may have difficulty with that is mindlessly parroting someone else's argument.

Your animation timing is dildos. Visit the sakugabooru and search the tags for whatever motion you're doing, use a metronome or stopwatch and notice how things speed up/slow down. You can even play around with the timing in whatever editing program you're using while you're working. Alternatively, do these: http://www.animatorisland.com/51-great-animation-exercises-to-master/

You tend to study multiple subjects per day, just make sure you're actually understanding what you're drawing, not just copying what you see and moving on to the next subject. If you can't redo it from memory the next day, you're probably not absorbing it. Consider that the brain tends to retain less information after 30 minutes of study, so hopefully you're giving yourself breaks. You cover a lot of ground though. If you can retain all this, you'll improve quickly.

I just really love my major and all of the relevant classes, so I retain the information easily and if I'm having trouble with something I don't mind studying it. If I'm having trouble with a class I don't enjoy, I just put in the extra time and effort into studying. I don't do any regularly-meeting extracurricular activities or hang out with friends, so if I need to, I can just sacrifice all of my free time. Because of the token system this is difficult without the actual data just given from lava. The best I could do was find the last date everyone submitted on (disregarding yesterday since people are still submitting today), find which day that was and count up. Here's the result.
Since these are the last submissions, the actual elimination happened either 1 or 2 days after the point in graph, so everyone in friday point died on either saturday (if they didn't have a token, or sunday if they did).

Also the those who submitted 2 days ago and lost their token yesterday are counted up here as dead, since there is no way for me to know that, but they are only 4 people anyways (token's used yesterday) so doesn't fuck up too much. I messed up last post which I deleted because the huge spike on saturday was those who submitted today already (21 people), my bad.

What I found was that those who left after 10 days or less, left mostly on a monday or wednesday. The rest is pretty even throughout the week, except for sunday where almost nobody ever leaves. The >50 submission people that's been eliminated are pretty few, but seems to trend towards the start of the week.
