Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email lava@lavaflake.com.

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

No, the standard for a penciler alone is 1 page per day. The entire pipeline of a fully colored and lettered page is definitely not a single day by itself. But if you're hired by Marvel or DC or any publisher like that, they'll expect you to complete 22 pages in a month with revisions, whatever stage of the pipeline you're in.

That's the idea, you weaken how much their reports count towards getting a submission into the Tribunal.

Same for votes, if they vote incorrectly too much you weaken how much their vote counts towards whichever direction they vote for.

Continual bad reports and bad votes = more weakening until their reports and votes are close to negligible and the only way to redeem themselves is to vote correctly hundreds of times.

Why are you assuming the challenge requires ink and color pages? All you really need is the drawings, and that's all an in-house publisher would ask, so it's a practical enough standard to go by in my opinion. If you wanted to be hired in house, you'd only need to do pencils OR inks OR color, therefore you could do this challenge in only one of those aspects. If you wanted to make your own comics, you could still just do the initial drawings. I have a few friends who run their own webcomics and they often use a leapfrog system where they do pencils for a few weeks then inks next week and color/lettering after that. If you wanted to create your own graphic novel doing that you could split each stage up by weeks or months the same way. Doing just the initial drawings for this challenge is totally valid.

Let me preface this by saying that I've been a memer since they first appeared on 4chan circa 2006 (ages ago in internet time). I remember refreshing /b/ all afternoon with the hope that someone would make a new meme. I was a memer back when Advice Dog was the only one and I still upvote every Advice Dog meme I see becasue of the fond rush of nostalgia it brings me. Nowadays, there are many thousand on quickmeme and other meme websites. I was a memer back before memegenerator was created (the first meme website) and I had to make them with MS Powerpoint or Paint. Speaking of meme websites, I was one of the first submitters to memebase.com and still have one of the top accounts there despite having migrated to reddit nearly 2 years ago. It was on 4chan and memebase where I cut my teeth creating memes, way before I had a reddit account and way before /r/adviceanimals was created in late 2010. Back before I could get any sort of points or even username recognition, I was creating memes as a clever and easily digestible way to reflect on society, relate some story to my audience, or just be funny.

Do you remember rich raven? No? I do. You probably don't remember depression dog, crazy girlfriend praying mantis, introspective pug, or friendzone Johnny either. I remember all of them. In fact, you have only submitted two posts to adviceanimals garnering a total of just 4 points and have not commented there any time recently. So please, respect my judgement regarding the direction of the subreddit and the integrity of posts I have held dear to my heart for nearly 7 years but you have no strong feelings for.

7, try to focus a bit more on how you frame your panels. The building looks good but I don't think splitting it into two panels is a good way to go.

Jones, try to keep proportions in mind when doing gestures.

Cranium, you're painting looks a bit too muddy and there's not enough contrast imo.

Jerrybreem, try to start your figures with a gesture drawing, that'll help you nail down the flow of the drawing as well as proportion fairly quickly.

iinaa, take better pictures, can't see shit.

Bondage fairy, work on head construction and try to ghost your lines more, looks a bit too scribbly imo.

Baddie, don't try to hatch or shade with long messy lines, and I'd recommend doing a bit more traditional work before going digital. It's a lot easier to get a feel for stuff like that with pencil and paper imo.

Well, now I don't know if I have good gesture or not, guess it's pretty hit and miss? Like I get it right only sometimes? Gesture is a pretty big mystery to me desu, if I seem to get it right sometimes it must be because I've done quite a few, but I don't think it clicks yet. Yeah these paintings are too contrasting, could use more midtones and greys. Dramatic lighting and shadow is good but not if it's the whole painting. Greys elsewhere in the big picture would lead the eye more towards the few blacks and whites which you'd stick around the main figure.
