It is not just gesture drawing, it's an interesting abstraction of the body. He uses cylinders to represent the shoulders and hips and draws the body like a folded piece of paper to demonstrate the twist of the torso. I hadn't seen the idea before he demonstrated it and I found it very helpful in my figure drawing.
